Greenery and sheep! :D
Keep an eye on my page for more info... :D Hey there! As an English lady, currently living in the land of Po (AKA Poland/Polska/Polonia 😉), I've come across many people who are learning English as a 2nd language. I, myself, am not a stranger to the turmoils and woes of language learning, as I continue (after more than a decade🙃) to wrap my head around Polish. I aim to make y

Yes! Just found this in Lidl! 🥳 Can't believe it! I was going to get my sister to send me one! 😋

This was a Christmas must* in my house growing up along with a big tub* of Celebrations and Quality Streets (you can get them in Poland in Action, just FYI 😉). What chocolates/sweet treats did you have every year in your home at Christmas time?

Thank you Lidl! You just made my day! 💃🏼😆🎉

"Pickle" in English is an endearing* pet name** that you call children when they are being a little bit naughty or cheeky***.

Grandpa often uses this word when talking to my kids (don't ask me why they are never naughty 😉). And recently, my 5yo started calling my 2yo a gherkin! I was wondering why... and then it clicked! 💡"Pickle"... "gherkin"... he was translating the Polish word "ogórek kiszony". So, from now on, whenever my kids are being cheeky, they are no longer pickles, but are big fat gherkins!! 🥒🥒🥒

What are some Polish pet names you guys use?

😘

P.S. When you say pickle in the UK, you think of Branston pickle which cucumbers pickled in a sauce made from tomato, vinegar, apple, and spices. It's often served with a traditional dish called a Ploughman's or in sandwiches. Very yummy btw. 😋

P.P.S. Do you see the evil gherkin smile in this photo?

*Endearing: sweet/cute

Driving this morning and I got stuck behind this ⬇️ So many Christmas trees!! 😍🎄😆
I'm taking this as a sign to put up my Xmas tree this weekend! Heehee! When do you normally put yours up?

It's tradition in England to decorate your tree about 2 weeks before Christmas and take it down before the New Year. Personally, I love this tradition 🎄☺️👍 It makes you feel the Christmas spirit earlier on. 🎅🔔🎄🍪

Christmas is coming! 😅🎅😉 Making mincemeat for mince pies!! 😋 Have you ever tried a mince pie? What did you think? 🤔

Mincemeat is the filling for a traditional English sweet treat - Mince pies. These little, fruity, slightly alcoholic, meat-free delicacies* are enjoyed at Christmas time and are made from dried fruit, spices, sugar, nuts, brandy and some type of fat i.e. butter. 😋 Extremely unhealthy, but so gooooood!

Here's a recipe in case you fancy giving it a go*: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/traditional-mincemeat (replace the suet (which you can't buy in Poland) with 125g butter).

Be aware: Mincemeat must be prepared at least 2 weeks before you plan on using it. This gives the flavours time to develop.

Words:
*Delicacy: something rare or expensive that is good to eat (przysmak)
*Give something a go: try doing something (wypróbować coś)

Hello! It's been a while! 😉
It's been a crazy couple of months on my end. How about you?

I've started a new job and something popped up which made me giggle. 😆 In my previous workplace, people (Poles) used to ask me why I would start a conversation on the online communicator like this: "Hi! How are you today?" and then wait for a reply before asking my question.

Well, of course, it's the wonderful British politeness coming through. 😅 But in my current job, everyone does it... and actually I now see the Polish point of view - it can be a bit frustrating and a tiny bit of a waste of time especially when you need to get a speedy answer to a quick question. 😅

Have you had any experience with this?

😘

I would like to take a moment of appreciation 🙂🙏🥰

My Dad came to visit recently and in order to keep both myself and Grandpa sane, we had to find multiple activities to entertain my 3 monkeys.🐵🐒🙊 Grandpa was pleasantly surprised by the abundance* of entertainment that Zielona Góra offers. He said that England cannot compete, there is much less choice and what is available is extremely expensive. 😔💸😕

So, I want hats off* to ZG! It's a great place to live, a great place to bring up a family and it continues to get better year on year.👏🥳👍

Autumn is in full swing! 🍂🍄🍃 And I've gotta say that I'm loving spending time in the woods; the beautiful heather (wrzos), searching for mushrooms, the leaves changing colours. 🥰 It fills me with a sense of peace. 🙏😉

What about you? How are you feeling now the seasons are changing?

Do you ever read something quickly and then realise that maybe you read it wrong? 🤔

That very thing just happened to me..
Instead of reading "minimums" I read it as "mini mums". A few seconds, a bit of confusion and I realised what my wonderful brain had done to me. 😆

I will never look at that word in the same way again. There will always be mini mums hanging around. 😅👩‍👧😆

How do you wear your wedding ring? 💍 Do you wear it with your engagement ring? 🤔 Which is first the engagement ring and then the wedding band or the other way around? 🤔💍✋

I have recently discovered that traditionally Brits would put on their wedding band first and then your engagement ring. And not in reverse; knuckle - engagement ring - then wedding band. Hmm, it appears that I have had them in the wrong order.. for over a decade! 🤦‍😅🤦‍♀️
