WYA in Action at the United Nations 🎤🎤🎤

Since its founding, WYA has been a critical voice for human dignity at the United Nations.

This year was no different. Our WYA advocacy team attended the 57th Session of the UN Commission on Population and Development from April 29-May 3 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) reviews progress towards the goals of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), which took place in Cairo in 1994. The CPD’s main concerns are population and development issues, as well as demographic trends. Its annual session gives countries a chance to discuss these topics together and make policy recommendations to the UN.

This year, WYA sent an all-star advocacy team to the CPD session: Ramon Barba (WYA Europe’s Regional Director of Advocacy); Africa Advocacy Fellow Nyingi Wahome; Global Advocacy Fellow Rokaia Elhommosani; and Mislav Barišić, WYA’s Director of Policy and Research.

Our advocates serve as a voice for the millions of youths around the globe who believe in human dignity. “We offer a different, unique perspective and we communicate it to the delegates gathered there,” says Mislav Barišić. “We also offer our unique solutions, such as the Human Dignity Curriculum and FEMM.”

WYA advocates monitor proposed text for the session’s documents and make recommendations on language to include or take out. The WYA team also works to ensure that countries aren’t coerced into accepting documents, particularly content containing problematic ideology.

W zeszłym tygodniu odbyło się jedno z najważniejszych wydarzeń World Youth Alliance - 21. Międzynarodowe Forum Solidarności *(International Solidarity Forum)!
🌍 W bieżącym roku - po przerwie pandemicznej - ISF powróciło do głównej siedziby WYA w Nowym Jorku, a głównym tematem było "Human Dignity and Totalitarian Ideologies".
Od 9 do 12 kwietnia nasze przedstawicielki, Aga Mackow i Martyna Szoja , aktywnie uczestniczyły w tworzeniu nowej deklaracji WYA, angażując się w negocjacje, dyskusje i wysłuchując wykładów ekspertów światowej klasy.
Wśród najciekawszych gości byli m.in. Cheng Guangcheng – chiński dysydent prawnik i działacz na rzecz praw człowieka, prof. Ryszard Legutko – autor i filozof, poseł do Parlamentu Europejskiego, Mike Gonzalez – autor i starszy współpracownik w The Heritage Foundation, oraz Carlo Lancellotti – autor i profesor na College of Staten Island. 🌟
Warto zaznaczyć, że w tym roku WYA obchodzi swoje 25-lecie! 🎉 Dlatego też wydarzenie uświetniła sobotnia gala, podczas której polską reprezentację wzmocnił Jan Filip Jagielski obecnie studiujący w Nowym Jorku.

ISF było niesamowitym forum pełnym energii, wymiany myśli i planów na przyszłość.

📌 KEY INFORMATION:

The World Youth Alliance Croatia (WYA Croatia) in collaboration with World Youth Alliance Europe (WYA Europe) and World Youth Alliance Southeast Europe is glad to announce that this August we are holding our fourth "International Summer School of Bioethics and Human Rights".

After six successful local and three international versions of this project which gathered more than 350 young people from 2018 to 2023, WYA Croatia is again opening the door to young people from all over the world to join them in Šibenik, Croatia from the 5th to 11th of August, 2024.

In collaboration of WYA Croatia with WYA Europe and supported by the Stiftung Ja Zum Leben, this project will host 40 young international participants, and renowned experts in the field of bioethics and human rights. The aim of the project is to offer an educational program on the important bioethical issues that potentially endanger human dignity and empower young people to respond to those challenges. Topics will be covered by interactive lectures from renowned international experts in the field of medicine, law and philosophy.

With the analysis of medical research, legal verdicts and philosophical principles, the participants will acquire a broad knowledge of the topics and will have a chance to articulate it in debates and workshops, thus practising argumentation and strengthening their public speaking and advocacy skills. In their free time, participants will have the opportunity to visit the sights of the city of Šibenik and enjoy the beauties of the Croatian coast together.

👥 WHO CAN APPLY?
Young people between the ages of 18 and 30 with a good level of English and a personal interest in the areas of bioethics and human rights.

💵 PRICE OF PARTICIPATION:
Thanks to the donations of our supporters, the cost of participation is lower than the full total cost and amounts to 190 EUROS for students and unemployed youth or 290 EUROS for employed youth. The price includes accommodation for 7 days (6 nights), 3 meals a day, working materials and transportation in Šibenik for joint visits to Šibenik fortresses and the old town.

💸 Early Bird (until March 24th): 170 EUROS for students or 270 EUROS for employed youth.

❕ We also provide the possibility of a partial or full scholarship for a certain number of young people in need - if you want to apply for a scholarship, you will be able to mark this option in the application form.

✈️ TRANSPORTATION TO ŠIBENIK:
Transportation to Šibenik, Croatia participants provide and pay independently.
We will be at your disposal for any questions related to travel, border crossing and arrival.
