✨City of Kranj organised workshop “My City, My Future” for primary school students.🌿
An important part of the workshop was imagining Kranj in 2050 – will it be greener or more digital? Will there be more plants or more concrete? How will cities adapt to rising temperatures and extreme weather events?
Using the collage technique and recycled materials, the participants created their own visions of a greener, more climate-friendly, and resilient future city. Through discussion, teamwork, and creativity, many inspiring ideas emerged about green public spaces, sustainable urban living, and coexistence with nature.♻️
We were inspired by the young participants' enthusiasm, imagination, and strong environmental awareness.👥
The collages are currently on display at France Prešeren Primary School Kranj and will also be exhibited in the old town centre of Kranj at the end of June.

City of Kranj implemented majority of sustainable, beautiful and biodiverse rich pilot measures within the Old City centre and represented it on a events of Eco Week 2026:
🌿 on Slovenski square, it strengthened biodiversity with 3 renovated flower beds of climate suitable perennials and ornamental grasses. Some local plants from Kokra canyon were used also to give bees additional food. Better water utilization on the beds was established with local conglomerate mulch. 🌱🐝
🌿 on Prešernova street, it installed 5 big new pots with a water reserve, planted with 2 local suitable trees and perennials, which provide color and textural diversity and beauty throughout the year.💦🌳
🌿 at the Kovačnica location, new extensive green roof contributes to better living green comfort with cooling effect of the inner courtyard.
With field walks and similar events City of Kranj gathers operational handouts from contractors and general public for a better understanding of the necessity of preserving biodiversity in urban environments (NEB+ based Urban Biodiverse Transition) and its incorporation to Action plan for biodiverse transition of the city.👥

Field observations are once again being conducted in Langiewicz Park in Wrocław – this time following the lighting modernization implemented as part of the URBIO BAUHAUS project intervention.💡🌳
The study is carried out under the same methodological framework as the previous measurements, enabling a reliable comparison of results and an assessment of whether the implemented changes have influenced how the park functions during evening hours. 👥
This marks another step in analysing how infrastructural interventions translate into the use of public space and urban biodiversity support.✨🪲

Koniec listopada to ważny czas w realizacji projektu URBIO BAUHAUS we Wrocławiu.
We wczesnych godzinach wieczornych, w parku im. Gen. Mariana Langiewicza spotkali się przedstawiciele instytucji i firm tworzących wrocławskie BIOCENTUM* aby wspólnie, dopracować ustawienia nowego oświetlenia parkowego. Spotkanie BIOCENTUM odbyło się w formacie Project in a day.

The end of November marked an important milestone in the implementation of the URBIO BAUHAUS project in Wrocław.
In the early evening hours, representatives of institutions and companies forming the Wrocław BIOCENTUM* node met in Gen. Mariana Langiewicza Park to jointly adjust the settings of the new park lighting. The BIOCENTUM meeting was held in a Project in a Day format.
💡The Wrocław project intervention, implemented by the Municipality of Wrocław, focuses on the issue of light pollution in urban green spaces. Its objective is to introduce solutions that support biodiversity through the application of new lighting systems that reconcile the needs of people and nature.🌳👥
As a result of the modernisation, both the correlated colour temperature and light intensity were reduced and adjusted to the actual hours of park use. The contrast between illuminated and non-illuminated zones was decreased, and the overall uniformity of spatial perception was improved. These changes aim to enhance users’ perceived sense of safety while simultaneously improving living conditions for park flora and fauna.🌒
The new lighting fixture settings were developed in cooperation with project partners, BIOCENTUM, the Municipal Greenery Authority, and stakeholders representing energy companies working for the Municipality of Wrocław. Following the implementation of the modernisation measures at the demonstrator site, UPWr has commenced a new round of environmental and social research in the area. The meeting was also attended by UPWr students carrying out master’s theses in the field of urban biodiversity conservation.
We would like to thank all participants for their cooperation and for joint actions at the interface of science and urban governance.
*BIOCENTUM node was established by the Municipality of Wrocław in cooperation with Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences and the Association of Polish Urban Planners – Wrocław division in October 2024. It was built upon the existing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Hub in Wrocław, whose activities focus on promoting the potential of nature-based solutions.

Another meeting of the URBIO BAUHAUS team has just come to an end - a couple of exceptionally productive days filled with collaboration and joint planning 🌍💚
During the sessions, the team summarized the work completed so far and, above all, explored the approach to the emerging strategy for strengthening urban biodiversity in the spirit of the New European Bauhaus. 📃🌱 A mutual evaluation of the BIOCENTUM was also carried out, showing how this platform is evolving into a space of shared visions and urban innovation.
The agenda also included planning the next steps for the coming period, along with participating in inspiring workshops led by Darko Fercej from ISD - a spark for new ideas and directions. 💡
Evenings brought a different kind of inspiration: a walk through Budapest, a city that reveals its green and architectural subtleties after dark. 🌃 A highlight of the visit was the meeting in Érd’s developing Climate Park, joined by representatives of the local BIOCENTUM node. 🌿🦋
A warm thank you goes to our partners from BURST and the City of Érd for a valuable, insightful, and exceptionally friendly gathering.
