🗓👨🏾🎓On the 12th of June Wrocław Medical University hosted Prof. Mandla Stanley Makhanya who was appointed the Magna Observatory Ambassador.
Prof. Makhanya served as Rector and Chancellor of South Africa University (UNISA) from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2020. Before taking up the position of Rector and Chancellor, he was Vice-Rector at the same university. He is a prominent advocate for leadership and promotion of higher education and WMU’s ambassador in the project of Magna Charta Living Values. Our university has been part of this project since 2022.
During the meeting organized by our Welcome Centre, Prof. Makhanya spoke to students of our university about ethical standards, societal responsibility, diversity and inclusion along with academic freedom and international cooperation as the values of Magna Charta.
📖As living documents, the values of the Magna Charta Universitatum evolve with time, adapting to new challenges and opportunities faced by institutions of higher education around the globe. The continuous reaffirmation and re-evaluation of these principles ensure that they remain relevant and impactful in fostering academic excellence and societal progress.
🖋📜The Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) is a declaration and a set of guiding principles intended to support the autonomy and academic freedom of universities around the world. Originally signed in 1988 in Bologna, Italy, it has since been reaffirmed and evolved to reflect contemporary educational values and global challenges. You can find the text of this document in our Welcome Centre and get familiarize with Magna Charta values in your national language.
