🌍🔬 Sharing one of our scientific publications developed within the framework of the COOLSPACES4LIFE European project.
This paper investigates the effects of the inclination angle on the freezing and melting kinetics of planar encapsulated Phase Change Materials (PCMs), which play a key role in thermal energy storage systems. ❄️🔥

By combining experimental work and numerical simulations, we analyzed how orientation influences the thermal behavior of a commercial PCM capsule. The results provide useful insights for optimizing PCM-based passive cooling solutions and energy-efficient building designs.

Grateful to all partners and collaborators involved in this research. 🙌

☀️ What if we could use the sun itself to cool our spaces?

Presenting the CoolSpaces system, developed by an international consortium — including the University of Almería (Spain) and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Poland) — which combines solar energy + cutting-edge refrigeration.

🔧 How does it work?
• Photovoltaic panels power a compression refrigeration unit + batteries
• Phase change materials (PCM) store "cool" to release when there's no sun
• A refrigerant gas developed for this solution, with low environmental impact

🌍 Why is this important?
Because in many hot climates, the main issue in summer is cooling, which spikes electricity consumption and emissions. With this system, the sunniest (and hottest) days coincide with more energy production and storage.

🏛️ Project Status
Currently in pilot phase: operational installations in Spain and Poland. Commercialization expected after 2026, pending confirmed results.

👉 At CoolSpaces 4 Life, we believe this solution is a glimpse into the future of sustainable cooling. Can you imagine a public building or a private home equipped with this system?

💬 What do you think? Do you believe solar cooling will be the standard in a few years? Leave your comment, share, and tag someone who should know about this breakthrough.
