Congratulations Kinga Garstka-Litwin and Aleksandra Hecel - you did an amazing job putting this work together! ❤️

In this review, we explore bacterial Zn, Cu and Ni homeostasis through the lens of coordination chemistry and show how metal trafficking, selectivity and redox chemistry shape the host–pathogen battle for survival. We also discuss how these systems may become powerful new antimicrobial targets in the post-antibiotic era.

Dwa dni, dwie obrony i ogrom dumy! ❤

21.04 swoją rozprawę doktorską obronił Valentyn Dzyhovskyi To była praca rozwijana przez lata, której fundamenty powstały dzięki zaangażowaniu i wizji dr Kamili Stokowej-Sołtys (K**a Sto) - promotorki pomocniczej, a tak naprawdę tej osoby, która zainicjowała temat i towarzyszyła Valentynowi na każdym etapie jego naukowej drogi.

Wczoraj do grona doktorów dołączyła Emilia Dzień – tutaj naprawdę trzeba podkreślić jej niezwykłą samodzielność! Emilka nie tylko realizowała swoje badania, ale też konsekwentnie szukała nowych ścieżek, podejmowała własne inicjatywy i odważnie wychodziła poza swoją strefę komfortu. Na wielu życiowych polach 😊 To badaczka, która bierze odpowiedzialność za swoją naukę i robi to z ogromną energią.
A nad tym wszystkim czuwali nasi absolutnie niezastąpieni Recenzenci (profesorowie: Violetta Patroniak, Sylwia Rodziewicz-Motowidło, Łukasz Berlicki, Rafał Latajka, Marta Spodzieja, Danuta Witkowska - za ich wnikliwość, czas i wsparcie ogromnie dziękujemy!

Dwie różne drogi, dwa piękne przykłady tego, jak wygląda prawdziwy rozwój naukowy.
Ogromne gratulacje – Valentyn, Emilia – jesteśmy z was BARDZO dumni! 🎓❤

[PL] Dwie nagrody w jeden dzień trafiły w ręce naszej doktorantki Anny Ślusarczyk, która podczas XXIII Wrocławskiego Studenckiego Sympozjum Chemicznego została wyróżniona I miejscem za najlepszą prezentację ustną oraz I miejscem – nagrodą publiczności.

Ogromnie cieszy nas tak świetny odbiór wyników i podwójne wyróżnienie, zarówno ze strony komitetu naukowego, jak i uczestników konferencji.

Swoje wyniki badań w formie posteru zaprezentowała również nasza magistrantka Ewelina Smaczna, aktywnie włączając się w konferencyjne dyskusje i prezentując rezultaty swojej pracy.

Gratulujemy dziewczynom i trzymamy kciuki za kolejne sukcesy!

[EN] Two awards in a single day went to our PhD student, Anna Ślusarczyk, at the 23rd Wrocław Student Chemical Symposium, where she received first place for the best oral presentation as well as the Audience Award.

We are delighted to see such an enthusiastic reception of her results and this double recognition from both the scientific committee and the conference participants.

Our MSc student, Ewelina Smaczna, also presented her research in a poster session, actively engaging in discussions and sharing the outcomes of her work.

Congratulations to both of them - we’re keeping our fingers crossed for many more successes to come!

W dniu 13 grudnia odbył się Zjazd Zimowy Sekcji Młodych Polskiego Towarzystwa Chemicznego w Gliwicach! ❄️ Wydarzenie to zgromadziło Młodych Naukowców z całej Polski, a więc nie mogło tam również zabraknąć naszych BAMbowych studentów i doktorantów! 🧡🧪

Jednym z punktów programu konferencji był wykład plenarny, który wygłosił nasz doktorant Wojciech Lizak - laureat zeszłorocznego Zjazdu Wiosennego Sekcji Młodych PTChem pt. „Homeostaza jonów miedzi jako punkt wyjścia do walki z patogenami”.

Z kolei, podczas sesji posterowej reprezentowali nas nasi magistranci:

❄️ lic. Martyna Kniaś (promotor: dr Joanna Wątły), która zaprezentowała poster pt. „Od śliny do leku: jak modyfikacje peptydów naturalnych mogą prowadzić do nowych terapii przeciwbakteryjnych?”

❄️ lic. Piotr Smolec (promotor: dr Aleksandra Hecel), który przedstawił poster pt. „Miedź i cynk pod kontrolą - rola PCuAC w homeostazie metali w bakteriach”

Gratulujemy wszystkim prelegentom udanych wystąpień i dziękujemy za świetne reprezentowanie naszego zespołu podczas tego wydarzenia! 👏✨

On the 13th of December, the Winter Conference hosted by the Young Section of the Polish Chemical Society took place in Gliwice, Poland! ❄️ The event brought together young scientists from all over Poland and, of course, our BAM students and PhD researchers were there too! 🧡🧪

One of the highlights of the conference was the invited plenary lecture given by our PhD student, Wojciech Lizak, who was last year’s poster laureate during the Spring Conference of the Young Section of the Polish Chemical Society, titled: “Copper ion homeostasis as a starting point in the fight against pathogens.”

During the poster session, our team was represented by our master’s students:

❄️ Martyna Kniaś (supervisor: Dr. Joanna Wątły), who presented her poster titled: “From saliva to drugs: how modifications of natural peptides can lead to new antibacterial therapies”

❄️ Piotr Smolec (supervisor: Dr. Aleksandra Hecel), who presented his poster titled: “Copper and zinc under control - the role of PCuAC in bacterial metal homeostasis”

Congratulations to all our presenters for their excellent contributions and for proudly representing our team during this event! 👏✨

Exciting news! Our PhD student Ania has won the Polish Chemical Society’s award for the best master’s thesis in Poland! 🎉 The award ceremony took place on 22 September during the inauguration of the 67th Congress of the Polish Chemical Society in Wrocław.

The master’s thesis, prepared under the supervision of our amazing Asia and defended with distinction, had already been recognized in December of the previous year with the title of Best Master’s Thesis in Wrocław. This prestigious local award was just a trailer of her subsequent success in the national competition organized by the Polish Chemical Society.

Ania 👩🏼‍🔬 continues her academic career under the guidance of Asia and Magda, as part of a project funded by the Narodowe Centrum Nauki (UMO-2021/41/B/ST4/02654).

We couldn’t be prouder that such talented people are part of our team!☺️

We are delighted to share that our team had the pleasure of co-organizing and participating in the XV International Symposium on Inorganic Biochemistry, which took place on 10-13 September in Wrocław, Poland. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all speakers from our group for their excellent contributions. In particular:

✨ PhD student Kuba for giving an oral presentation,
✨ Ania, Gabrysia, Klaudia, and Klaudia Kłopotowska (BSc student) for presenting flash presentations and posters.
A special congratulations to Klaudia for receiving the award for Best Poster Presentation with her outstanding work titled: “Peptidomimetics Based on MUC7 Fragment From Human Saliva: Comparison of Coordination, Structure, Stability and Antimicrobial Activity”.
This was an inspiring and highly enriching conference, offering us the opportunity to listen to pioneering researchers in the field, broaden our scientific horizons, and foster new collaborations. It was truly a wonderful experience for our team.
