Today, we're chatting with Filip Malawski, who is providing accompaniment on the piano for our Les Misérables medley at the Do you hear the people sing? concert on Monday 9 June at Oratorium Marianum 🎶🏤🎶
Hi, Filip. So, how long have you been a pianist?
– Hello, City Choir! Well, I've been playing the piano since I was 5 – that's almost 30 years of my life.
Did you study music?
– Yes, I studied at the Academy of Music in Wrocław at the instrumental department. My specialty was piano.
Of course it was! 😁 Tell us, have you worked with choirs previously?
– Yes, I have worked with choirs before, both as a singer and accompanist.
What's your favourite piece to play on the piano?
– While studying at the academy, I enjoyed piano literature by composers of the Romantic era, such as Fryderyk Chopin, Johannes Brahms or Franz Liszt. But my heart was stolen by the music of Franz Liszt. My all-time favorite piano piece of his is "Obermann's Valley" from the cycle "Years of Pilgrimage".
Do you write your own music?
– Yes, I sometimes create my own compositions, although I am a fan of improvising. I used to be able to sit for hours and constantly come up with new musical motifs and "play" with music, which often reflected my mood 🙃
What does your Piano Sound business offer?

Finally, why do you love the piano so much?
– Playing the piano brings a lot of joy and respite from everyday life. But above all, music allows me to express myself and inspire others to see how important and valuable it is to play an instrument, and to make others aware that it can reflect our feelings and emotions.
