✨ New publication alert 📚
Prof. Grzegorz Kosc’s essay “The Third-World Underdog Alliance in Adrian C. Louis’s Ancient Acid Flashes Back” has been reprinted in Tellin’ It Like It Is: Selected Works of Adrian C. Louis, which will be released in August, edited by Prof. David R. Pichaske and published by the University of Nevada Press.
Pichaske assembled a critical section - a kind of addendum - featuring several reviews and scholarly essays that help place Louis’s work in context. 📖
Native American poetry's "Angriest Indian Poet," Louis was a dark, hardboiled, anti-romantic poet of survival - brutally funny and unsentimental to the bone. 🖋️

✨ Student Life at ASC UW ✨
“The ASC Students’ Union is an exceptional place that allows one to fully celebrate being a student. Also, active work in such a student organization teaches you numerous skills that will certainly help you in the future on the job market and in interpersonal relationships. It’s a great opportunity to gain many experiences and test yourself in new challenges. There is no better place to contribute to this community, meet amazing people and make memories. Without the Students’ Union, my time at the university would have felt incomplete. I highly recommend this adventure to everyone!”

✨ Students’ Report from the 2026 Transatlantic Symposium ✨
From May 4 to 8, ASC welcomed students and lecturers from Humboldt University Berlin and American University in DC (online) for the annual Transatlantic Symposium 🌍
This year, we explored the themes of disability and care, examining how they are reflected in culture and the arts. Participants from Poland, Berlin, and Washington shared their insights through a series of thought-provoking presentations and discussions 💬
Beyond the presentations, we enjoyed inspiring workshops with Mimi Khúc and Magdalena Szarota, as well as visits to the Q***r Museum Warsaw and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Throughout the week, we gained insight into the many different angles of disability studies and exchanged ideas beyond our regular academic circles 🏛️
Already looking forward to next year’s symposium! 💫
📚 The Transatlantic Symposium is an academic exchange program founded by Humboldt University Berlin in collaboration with international partners in 2003. The American Studies Center joined the program in 2012 and has been a regular partner ever since. Each symposium includes a graduate student conference primarily for MA students and a study tour.
