How often, when designing a training or an L&D process, do we really consider the needs of the participants?
And how often do we stop at just thinking about them?
Merely thinking about other people’s needs is a risky business—it opens the door to cognitive biases.
It means designing learning not for real people, but for our imagined version of them.

Learning Battle Cards
Our goal is to support the balanced, un-biased and healthy growth of new technologies in the T&D field.
We deliver intellectual products positively influencing knowledge, skills, and attitudes of decision-makers as well as other stakeholders.
Learning Battle Cards is a universe of diverse learning forms, captured in a deck of 110 cards. But the real power of these cards lies not just in the individual methods—they shine when you start combining them in pairs, unlocking the full potential of each learning strategy.
Let’s take the Quiz—one of the most popular learning forms, especially in digital learning. But… are you really using its full potential?
Let’s look at a few combinations:
🟡 Add the Summary card, and you’ll see the quiz not just as an assessment tool, but as a meaningful wrap-up for each key part of your training. It helps the learner confirm they’re leaving a module with the right knowledge. But be careful—it requires the skill of asking essential, not just easy, questions.
🟡 Pair it with Playability, and the quiz becomes a fun, energizing element of your course. A light quiz at the beginning? A simple way to boost dopamine and engagement. Here, go for intuitive, interesting—not too difficult—questions.
🟡 Now combine it with Reflection. That sparks the idea of using questions that provoke deeper thought—perfect for raising awareness. “What percentage of communication is non-verbal?”, “How many news articles are AI-generated?” The more surprising the answer, the better.
🟡 Add Social Network, and you might see a way to boost interest in your training on social media. Quizzes and quick challenges thrive in that environment.
🟡 The Feedback card? It reminds you how critical good feedback is—especially on incorrect answers. It’s a great way to guide learners to the right resources.
🟡 Quiz + Movie opens the door to interactive videos—think branching scenarios, where the learner’s choices drive the storyline.
And what if you added Practice, Assessment, Showcase, or Self-analysis?

🧠 Are so called “non-active” learning methods really that passive?
We often label activities like listening, reading, or watching as non-active. Supposedly, they require little to no effort. But that’s far from the truth.
➡️ Try really listening to a lecture or deeply reading a piece of text. It demands cognitive effort — attention, processing, focus. And honestly, it’s quite easy to drift off and start thinking about something else entirely.
🎯 The key? It’s all about the learner’s decision to engage.
Sometimes, it’s even easier to immerse people in games or discussions than to motivate them to read a text content.
🙋♀️ So, does that mean passive methods are inferior?
Not at all. 📚🎧🎬
In some contexts, an e-book, a video, or a lecture might be the best possible choice.
During one of our workshops, a case study was presented in which an interactive video was proposed for product training. In it, learners took on the role of a detective solving a criminal mystery — one that required knowledge of the company’s products.
A few days later, the L&D team received a request:
"Can we get a simple, searchable product overview? Even a PDF would do."
Isn’t it possible that, sometimes, learning designers' ambitions overshadow common sense — and the real needs of learners?
💡 The real question isn’t what method you use, but whether the learner sees the value behind learning.
💥 What drives engagement in non-active formats?
✔️ WIIFM – What’s In It For Me?
✔️ A compelling narrative or visual style
✔️ A thought-provoking question at the start
✔️ Simplicity - clear and simple messaging
📈 Still not convinced?
Think about how many people willingly share their email just to download an e-book. Why? Because they believe it’s worth it.
📌 A tip for learning designers:
Don’t give up on so-called passive formats.
✅ Use them strategically.
✅ Design for engagement — sometimes even more carefully than with active methods.

✨ We’ve just wrapped up an inspiring Learning Battle Cards workshop in Dubai… and guess what? We’re already preparing for the next one – April 15, 2026 in Jakarta!
Dubai was full of ideas, deep conversations, creative tension, and cards flying across boards – quite literally. We met professionals who don’t just “deliver training,” but design learning experiences that lead to real, lasting change.
We are already getting ready to meet the incredible L&D minds of Southeast Asia.
This workshop is made possible thanks to our partnership with ACE Learning – and a big thank you to Edysen Shin for bringing it to life!
🚀 Why is the Lunch and Learn method so effective?
Because learning doesn't always have to happen in a formal setting! The Lunch and Learn approach taps into natural, informal moments in the workday—like grabbing lunch, a coffee break, or a relaxed team gathering—to share knowledge, spark ideas, and build a learning culture.
💡 It's not just about food. It's about:
Making learning feel easy and accessible
Encouraging peer-to-peer knowledge sharing
Using real office moments to support growth
Strengthening team connection and engagement
Whether it's during lunch or just a casual meet-up, it's a simple way to bring learning into the everyday rhythm of work. And sometimes, those are the moments when the best ideas happen.

🔔 App Supported Learning – is it in your learning design toolkit yet?
Many still treat mobile apps as life accessories…
But what if they became a true part of the learning process?
App Supported Learning is a design approach where a phone, tablet, or laptop actively supports the learner. It's not just about having something “saved somewhere.” It's about real support – using tools like:
📍 Geolocation – showing content or tasks only in specific places
⏰ Notifications – creating rhythm and reinforcing memory
🧠 Personalization – delivering content when it makes actual sense
Sounds fancy? Not really. It's a very practical approach, especially powerful in onboarding, habit-building, or field-based learning.
➡️ Just ask yourself: How can I design learning to accompany, not just inform?
🚀 Unlocking Personalized Learning with a Powerful Duo: Self-Analysis & E-Book! 📖✨
Imagine this: A learning experience that starts with self-reflection and transforms into a personalized journey tailored just for you. That’s the magic of combining Self-Analysis and an E-Book—two Learning Battle Cards that, when paired together, create a truly engaging and impactful learning process.
🔍 How does it work?
1️⃣ Self-Analysis: A questionnaire, self-assessment, or interactive diagnostic tool helps the learner reflect on their knowledge, skills, and challenges.
2️⃣ Dynamic E-Book Generation: Based on the responses, an automatically curated e-book is generated—filled with insights, tips, and resources relevant to their unique needs.
💡 Why is this combination so powerful?
✅ Personalization at Scale – No more generic learning materials! Each participant receives content tailored to their level, goals, and gaps.
✅ Higher Engagement & Retention – The learning experience becomes meaningful when it connects to one’s self-awareness and needs.
✅ Actionable Insights – Learners get practical takeaways that immediately apply to their work or personal growth.
📚 Example in Action:
A leadership development program could start with a Self-Analysis on strengths and areas for growth. Based on the answers, an E-Book is dynamically generated with customized learning paths, case studies, and exercises relevant to the individual’s leadership style.
🔥 The result?
A learning experience that feels like it was made just for them—because it actually was!
What do you think—could this be a game-changer in your L&D strategy? Let’s discuss! ⬇️
Ever wondered what happens when you mix a quiz with movie cards from the Learning Battle Cards deck? 🎬✨
You unlock the power of immersive, decision-based learning—just like the impactful Lifesaver experience! 🚑💡
🔀 Branching scenarios put learners at the heart of the action. They make choices, experience consequences, and gain insights in a risk-free, engaging way.
And the best part? Creating these experiences doesn’t have to be complex!
You can build them using:
✅ Simple quiz mechanics in your LMS
✅ Almost any authoring tool
✅ Dedicated platforms like Twine or Arcweave
💡 One of the key values of Learning Battle Cards is that combining different cards leads to new inspirations. Pairing a quiz with storytelling, simulations, or role-playing can result in fresh, engaging learning ideas!
Take your learning design to the next level with Learning Battle Cards!
One of the biggest challenges in security training is that most people believe it doesn’t apply to them.
👉 “I’d never fall for a phishing scam!” – Sounds familiar?
But when we run a controlled phishing simulation, the results often tell a different story… One click is all it takes. 💻⚠️
That’s why using the Simulation method, represented by one of the 110 cards from the Learning Battle Cards Deck, is a game-changer for cybersecurity awareness. Employees don’t just hear about security threats—they experience them safely and learn to stay vigilant. 🚀
