Academy of Finance is a non-state institution with many years of tradition. The Rector is Professor Miroslaw Zdanowski PhD, DSc.
It was founded in 1991 as the second higher education establishment of this kind in Poland. Over 10 000 students have graduated from the Academy since that time, mainly specialists in the area of Insurance, Finance, Banking and Technical and Economical Risk Engineering. At present there are about 3000 students who follow courses in a full time, evening and part-time system. Undergraduate, first de
gree studies last 3 years and postgraduate, second degree courses last another 2 years. The Academy offers the following specialization:
In the field of Finance and Banking: l Actuarial Science, Banking, Economics and organization of health care, IT in financial services, Organization and financing of agriculture and food industry, Accountancy, Insurance, Financial Services. In the field of International Relations: American Studies, Diplomacy, Economic Journalism, European Integration, International Journalism. The Academy houses two institutes: the Institute of Finance and Institute of Risk Management. The Institutes prossess the rights to confer academic degrees of PhD in the field of economy. Between 2003-2007, 17 PhD degrees have been awarded. The Academy of Finance has at its disposal an expert scientific staff, premises fully equipped with technical, educational and social facilities (lecture halls, computer laboratories, library, sports hall, conference and holiday-recreational center in the south of Poland). Lectures in English include specialist subjects in the field of Economy: Strategic management in Poland, International economic relations, Economics of international trade, International finance, Culture of business, Innovation on financial markets, International markets in Europe and Poland. Nine international students have taken up courses at the Academy: six from the Netherlands, two from Germany, one from Belgium. The Academy cooperates with several international universities (from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Finland and France) under the Socrates-Erasmus programmes. Under Erasmus, the Academy is involved in carrying out IP projects. The next two-week IP will be organized in the holiday center of the Academy in April 2008 for a group of 66 international students.
