'The workshop will be divided into two parts. First, I will introduce you to the possibilities modern data science tools and methods offer to psychologists. Second, I will present a very legal and hopefully easy tutorial on how to scrap and analyze data from Web pages and/or Social Media. During the workshop, we will use Google Colab which is an online tool that allows running Python. However, no programming skills are required to follow. Though, you should be aware that when I say Python I do not refer to a snake. After the workshop, you will be able to use the code I will present to you and plan some basic research using it. However, the main aim of the workshop is to make you aware of the tools and methods that are available out there not to turn you into a data scientist.'
Mikołaj Biesaga is a Ph.D. student at the Robert Zajonc Institute for Social Studies, University of Warsaw. A psychologist by education but nowadays he considers himself more as a social scientist. In his Ph.D. thesis, he investigates situational and cognitive determinants of the ability to produce random series. His scientific interests are much wider and spread from classical research on social influence through the dynamic of social interactions to natural language processing and urban studies. He has been involved in interdisciplinary projects on complex coordination in social interactions, social influence, implementing Nature-Based Solutions to modern cities, and mechanisms that shape social media and their impact on society. He values Margaret Mitchell much more than Jane Austen.
