CAE Report- Hints!

* Begin by stating the purpose of your report.
* You may use invented statistics to provide a succinct summary of your results.

Use a clear layout:

- Headings. They will make it clear that your report is not an essay or review.
- Lists of numbered points or bullets where appropriate. (DON'T overdo it, though. If you use them in more than one section, you won't be able to show the full range of structures and vocabulary you know.)
- Divide your report into sections according to the input.

* Develop the ideas in the task input.
* Include a sentence summarising your opinion at the beginning of the final section of your report.
* Use an impersonal, formal style.

Writing- time management

You have 90 minutes to write 2 texts. Both texts will be about the same length, and are worth the same number of points. Obviously, you should spend the same amount of time on each!

Spend as much time planning as possible, since it makes everything else easier!
This is how you could do it:

Planning - 10 minutes (I've made a video about the planning process - it's in section 8 below.)
Writing - 25 minutes
Checking - 10 minutes

TRY!

CAE Writing MISTAKES that you could possible make

*Not taking risks

A lot of students always write the same, safe, things they always write. To master advanced vocabulary and structures you have to use advanced vocabulary and structures!

*Being boring

It's hard enough to produce a well-structured piece of writing with good vocabulary that fits the content. But remember that the examiners read hundreds and hundreds of essays and most of them are very boring! If you make yours interesting (though the style, unexpectedly good vocabulary, maybe even a joke or two) the examiners will be VERY happy and you will be REWARDED.

BE CREATIVE!!!!

CAE READING AND USE OF ENGLISH PART 2

In this part you have to use your knowledge of grammar to produce the right word.

TIPS!

*Write only one word. One! Only! Cambridge consider contractions like 'won't' to be two words (will not), so that will never be an answer in part 2.

*Start by reading the title, then quickly read the whole text. This will help tell you if words should be positive or negative.

*Sometimes more than one word might be possible - for example if 'whereas' fits, 'while' might also fit. Either answer is okay, but don't write both.

How to Schedule Your Time?

Set a regular time to do your scheduling – at the start of every week or month, for example. Include your CAE preparation in it!

There are a number of different tools to choose from. A simple and easy way to keep a schedule is to use a pen and paper, organizing your time using a weekly planner.

You can also use apps and software such as Google Calendar®, MS Outlook® and Business Calendar. Choose a scheduling tool that suits your situation, the current structure of your job, your personal taste, and your budget.

The most important thing when choosing your planner is that it lets you enter data easily, and allows you to view an appropriate span of time (day/week/month) in the level of detail that you need.

It really helps! :)
