🤖 A project developed by students from the WUT Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science was selected for the Demonstrations Track at IJCAI-ECAI 2026 in Bremen. It was one of 50 papers accepted from 186 submissions worldwide!

💻 The team created a Moodle plug-in using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Its chatbot helps students learn from materials supplied by lecturers, while teachers can use it to generate tests and supplementary resources. Lecturers review and edit the generated content before students see it. ✅

🤔 What is it like to work on the world’s largest particle accelerator? ⚛️ Grigorii Chernyshov, a student at the WUT Faculty of Civil Engineering (Wydział Inżynierii Lądowej Politechniki Warszawskiej), found out this summer during an internship at CERN.

🏗️ During Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), the programme to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider, he carried out spatial analyses and used models to plan the safe transport and installation of large, complex components in confined underground tunnels. Each component had to fit along the entire route and into its final position. 💪

🌍 He gained this experience in an international, interdisciplinary team, learning about different working methods, safety standards and engineering solutions. 🤝

A team from the Faculty of Physics at WUT (Wydział Fizyki Politechniki Warszawskiej) has developed a new way of presenting ECG recordings: a carpet plot. It combines information essential to ECG analysis in a single image, showing both individual heartbeats and the intervals between them.

🫀 When the heart beats regularly, ordered bands form on the map. If the recording shows an arrhythmia or a change in the shape of the ECG waveform, this pattern changes.

A new stage of cooperation 👉 WUT and the Medical University of Warsaw (Warszawski Uniwersytet Medyczny) aim to strengthen their cooperation by combining their expertise and experience even more closely than before.

💡 This integration of their potential is intended to lay the foundations for future federation and to build the position of a regional leader in the field of Engineering – Medicine – Society. The agreement provides for the coordination of activities and decision-making in the areas of research, education, infrastructure, joint grants, and internationalisation. To facilitate this process, the universities plan to establish a WUT–MUW Strategic Council as well as operational teams responsible for coordinating the directions of cooperation, identifying organisational barriers, and preparing integration plans.

📝 The agreement was signed by WUT Rector Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba and MUW Rector Prof. Rafał Krenke.

Have you ever wondered how members of the Warsaw University of Technology community spent their summer❓

➡️ Meet Maciej Lato, one of our doctoral students, who used his free time to compete in the Royal Ocean Racing Club Round Britain and Ireland Race, covering 2,168 nautical miles in 14 days, 20 hours and 17 minutes. ⛵️

The event was sailed double-handed, with a crew of two. Maciej raced with Jakub Szymański, his sailing partner and mentor. For more than a fortnight, they shared the helming duties, monitored forecasts, planned the successive legs of the route and made decisions about how to continue the race.

👨‍💼 Representatives of KEK 高エネルギー加速器研究機構 visited the National Centre for Nuclear Research (Narodowe Centrum Badań Jądrowych) in Świerk and the Warsaw University of Technology.

💡 During their visit, they learned about the progress of work on equipment for the Hyper-Kamiokande experiment and plans for its production. One of the stops was the Department of Nuclear and Medical Electronics at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology (Wydział Elektroniki i Technik Informacyjnych Politechniki Warszawskiej). The Japanese delegation was shown the laboratory where multi-PMT detector modules were designed and where preparations are currently underway for their production.

💡 For aspiring physicists, the summer break is an opportunity to gain experience at the world’s leading research centres. In recent months, a team from the WUT Faculty of Physics (Wydział Fizyki Politechniki Warszawskiej) spent time at several such centres, including GSI/FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) 📍 in Darmstadt, where they worked on experiments investigating the properties of nuclear matter under extreme conditions.

The team from the WUT Faculty of Physics – comprising students 🧑‍🎓, doctoral students 🎓 and researchers 👩‍🔬 – is particularly involved in the correlation femtoscopy measurement programme. This involves analysing correlations between particles recorded by the detector, making it possible to study interactions over distances on the order of a femtometre, comparable to the size of an atomic nucleus.
