The two-day International Conference on “Human Rights in Armed Conflict: Asian–European Perspectives” was formally inaugurated at Marathwada Mitra Mandal’s Shankarrao Chavan Law College, Pune, in collaboration with the Indo-European Education Foundation, Poland. The conference is supported by associate partners, the University of Opole (Uniwersytet Opolski), Poland, and the University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Mittweida, Germany, as institutional partners of the Indo-European Education Foundation.
The inaugural ceremony marked the beginning of a significant international academic dialogue on contemporary challenges of human rights protection in armed conflicts. Scholars, researchers, legal professionals, and delegates from diverse backgrounds participated in the opening session, reflecting the global and interdisciplinary character of the conference.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar, President of the Indo-European Education Foundation, Poland, highlighted the urgent need for peace in the current troubled global scenario, marked by growing conflicts, instability, and geopolitical tensions. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation and strategic partnerships, particularly referring to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union, describing it as a crucial step towards economic stability, diplomatic cooperation, and global realignment. He further stressed the importance of understanding global realignment with new state actors and the economic impact of emerging trade policies, including Trump-era tariffs, on international relations and global governance.
The conference focuses on critical issues such as protection of civilians, refugee rights, gender-based violence, accountability for war crimes, the role of technology in warfare, corporate responsibility, and media ethics in conflict situations. The conference will continue over the next two days, featuring research paper presentations, panel discussions, and deliberations, with active contributions from scholars, students, and experts from around the world, fostering rich academic exchange and global perspectives.
The inaugural session concluded with a collective commitment to promoting peace, justice, human dignity, and international legal accountability, setting a strong foundation for the two-day international deliberations that followed.
