This year Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for work on Attosecond lasers. I think it's almost impossible to imagine how short a period of time that is but you could try with this analogy - assuming the universe is roughly 14 billion years old, there are more attoseconds within one second, than there have been seconds since the beginning of the universe!
