We have just finished the following Grundtvig workshop, scheduled for 22-29 September 2013:

"Usage of the modern ICT potential in awakening motivation to read among adults"
(ICT: Information and Communications Technologies)

During the workshops the adult educational staff was introduced to the ICT potential, like: creation of communication platforms, creation of digital materials for mobile devices (tablets, smartphones, e-book readers), online tutoring, forums administration or blog creation.

Next, the participants decided which ICT solutions for informal education they would like to implement for their trainees and students, to rise their competences in the ”adult literacy” field.
After identification of their needs, they were working on their own projects which they would implement after returning to their institutions.

During the workshops the participants were working on the actual solution, which they would be able to implement in their institutions.

The solutions, which were presented during the training were as follows:
-Creation of a readers forums for the public library, allowing the readers to order/extend books via the internet, while obtaining additional information, commenting, posting in forums administered by the library staff
- Working with adults in the multicultural schools on the joint event (for example a theatrical spectacle based on the local mythology, telling tales, publication of those tales in a form of an audiobook)
-Creation of an educational platform for the low-skilled, allowing the informal online education (written text understanding – law, official), cultural and lingual aspects and in the end better adaptation to the society

The workshop were supplemented with the meetings with the institutions, which implemented ICT solutions rising reading/writing skills among adults from the ”adult literacy” groups.

The participants were introduced to the good practices for working with seniors in public libraries.

MERITUM Polish Language School (Polish for Foreigners) - New: Last Minute Survival Polish The oldest Polish language school for foreigners in Warsaw, founded in 1992.

• Time: Monday – Friday (10AM – 1PM)
• How: 60 lessons x 45 min (25 classroom, 25 self-study, 10 practical field lessons)
• Price: 750 EUR (5% discount if you apply until 25.07.2013)

Every day you have 2 lessons with a lecturer and 2 self-study under teacher’s supervision utilizing new IT tools helpful in learning Polish.

Program:
Survival Polish – a beginner level of the Polish language knowledge. At this level a student knows the rules of pronunciation and intonation, knows and uses basic phrases and expressions indispensable for a simple conversation (greetings, making appointments) and can respond adequately to every-day life situations using proper language constructions on the telephone, in a shop. Students are capable of describing themselves and the matters connected with him/her (introduction – occupation, work, home, country). They can communicate in Polish without conscious knowledge of grammar.

Practical lessons as an addition to standard study:
A student under supervision of a lecturer practices learnt skills outside a classroom in natural language situations. These are shopping, ordering in a restaurant, over the phone, a visit in the bank, at the post-office, etc. During practical lessons the student has the possibility to visit the most interesting places in Warsaw to do sightseeing.

Finally you can see in theatres a 20-minute short film presenting an interesting 3D reconstrucion of Warsaw from 1935, showing how drastically Poland is changing.
