Today we remember September 17, 1939 - the day the Red Army invaded Poland without a declaration of war, carrying out the secret clauses of the Ribbentrop–Molotov Pact. Just like September 1, 1939, when Germany launched its brutal attack, this date marks the destruction of Polish independence and the beginning of years of suffering under two totalitarian regimes.
Along many points on the border - and deeper inside Polish territory, including near Kovel, Sarny, Kleck, Baranovichi, Dubno, Orany, and Ternopil - units of the Border Protection Corps and the Polish Army resisted the aggressor. The defense of Grodno (20–21 September) became symbolic of this struggle. Vilnius held out on 18–19 September, and the first Soviet units reached the outskirts of Lviv during the night of 18–19 September.
Poland remembers. We will never forget.

86 Years Since the Outbreak of World War II
On September 1, 1939, N**i Germany invaded Poland, marking the beginning of the deadliest conflict in human history. World War II claimed the lives of tens of millions, reshaped nations, and left wounds that continue to echo through generations.
Eighty-six years later, we remember the courage of those who resisted, the suffering of innocent civilians, and the responsibility we all share to uphold peace, dignity, and human rights. Memory is not only about the past — it is also a call to the present, reminding us that the defense of freedom and humanity is never finished.
