Mosaic fragments, a gold votive badge and amphora kilns. 📜 🏛️ These Roman-era discoveries were made by researchers from a team led by Prof. Radosław Karasiewicz-Szczypiorski from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology at the UW and Dr Lasha Aslanishvili from the Cultural Heritage Protection Agency of Ajara. The research was conducted at the Gonio-Apsaros archaeological site in Georgia. 🇬🇪

An interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Professor Adam Izdebski from the University of Warsaw has been awarded a prestigious Synergy Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). 🎉 👏 The EUROpest project: A Novel Understanding of Pandemic Disease in Preindustrial Europe (1300-1800): Combining History, Machine Learning and Natural Sciences will be carried out by a consortium coordinated by the University of Warsaw.

This is the first Synergy Grant awarded to the UW! The implementation of the project will last six years, starting in the midle of next year. It will involve dozens of researchers from ten scientific institutions in Europe and the United States. 🌍 The project has been awarded with almost €10 million.

Ten scientific disciplines run by the UW were ranked in Shanghai’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, with Mathematics in the lead (101–150)! 🧮

The 2024 GRAS is one of the most comprehensive and objective rankings of world universities by subjects. This year’s league table contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

While every PhD student at the University of Warsaw receives a scholarship, it is also possible to apply for external funding. 🎓 A great example is the START Scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science.

It is the oldest stipend programme in Poland for the best young scientists representing all fields of science. It aims to support outstanding young scholars and encourage their further scientific development. Each year, one hundred outstanding young scientists receive this prestigious scholarship. ✅

It's winter, a magical time at the University of Warsaw! ❄️ ☃️ The Botanic Garden of the University of Warsaw has turned into a winter wonderland, with beautiful lights and fresh snow!

The Office for Persons with Disabilities at University of Warsaw provides any necessary forms of support to doctoral students with disabilities. ✅ The Office, among others, provides information and legal advice, transport to and from the University, assistance of a sign language interpreter as well as free psychological consultations.

It also monitors processes and policies at the University in terms of compliance with legislation defining the rights of people with disabilities. ♿️ The Office provides consultation and training on accessibility and working with people with disabilities and learning difficulties.

In October the National Science Centre announced the winners of its annual award for outstanding scientists employed and performing basic research in Poland. The award in the science and technology category was received by Prof. Wiktor Lewandowski from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw. 👏

The National Science Centre is a government agency that supports research in Poland. 🔍 The award has been granted since 2013 to academics employed in Poland who have achieved significant successes in basic research. The award of PLN 50 000 each year goes to representatives of three groups of disciplines: humanities, social sciences and arts, life sciences and science and technology.
