Practical life in Montessori is purposeful activity; in the classroom this can be sewing, napkin folding, flower arranging or packing a bag - to name a few.
During our after-school activities I am able to branch out from the school walls and plan activities to engage your child in practical activities. Walking your dog, cooking dinner, gardening, grocery shopping and gift-wrapping… the possibilities are endless.
Depending on the age, interests and needs of you and your child I teach English through practical activities. I also see how busy parents are, so give me a task to do, and along with your children we will complete it together as we learn English and life skills.
Some ideas for how I work and how I can support you and your children:
Make a list of groceries you need and we will get them.
Need stamps or parcels posting? We will go to the post office.
Does your child need a costume for a play? We will make it or go shopping to look for it.
School bake sale? We’re on it.
Leaves need sweeping? We will sweep them.
Bedroom need tidying? Consider it done!
Each of these activities come with specific vocabulary and it’s more likely to stick when children are using the words practically.
Anything you don’t have time to do, or can delegate, you can trust me to complete the job effectively, while caring for your children and teaching them English simultaneously. It is important for me that children enjoy these activities, that they look forward to our time together as when they are having fun, the language naturally follows.
Polish schools put huge emphasis on grammar and this is what they do best. Your child’s time with me supports speaking. Whether for an hour or two weekly, or whole days during holiday times I will spend time with your child completing tasks and learning English. As the idiom goes “killing two birds with one stone” !
