Dear Prospective Participants,
The International Organisation for Migration is next up on our committee introduction list - meet your chairs, Maria Rocio Rodriguez Ratajczak and Jagoda Kowalska!
The International Organization for Migration committee at this year’s edition of StetiMUN serves as a UN body to save lives and protect people on the move, driving solutions to displacement, and facilitating pathways for regular migration. The subject of the committee, Protecting Vulnerable Small-Island Populations Affected by the Impacts of Climate Induced Migration, brings all of these three goals together.
As rising sea levels, extreme weather events, coastal erosion and the loss of vital resources increasingly threaten small-island communities, climate-related migration is becoming one of the most complex challenges facing the international community. As a delegate, you will explore problems regarding migration that often remain overlooked in international debates. The most important questions that the IOM delegates will have to answer are: when does migration become unavoidable, and how should displaced communities be protected?
Throughout the debates, delegates will have the opportunity to explore different approaches to climate mobility - planned relocations, migration pathways and humanitarian support for those who decide to stay. These solutions
will be implemented along with creating a realistic, ethical, and respectful approach to the issue.
If you are interested in a committee where debates revolve around human rights, migration, and pressing yet lesser-known global issues, the International Organization for Migration offers the perfect opportunity to explore challenges facing island communities around the world.
