Happy to share our latest article, which highlights the considerable capability of reflected light microscopy as a rapid and quantitative approach for assessing biochar permanence. Ultimately, this study represents a foundational step toward establishing a much-needed standardized, scientifically robust methodology that is specifically tailored to the unique structural and optical characteristics of biochar.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Deolinda Flores, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, editor of the International Journal of Coal Geology, and a dear friend and colleague. She leaves behind an extraordinary scientific and academic legacy that will continue to inspire many.
