New AMU Archives building to be built in Morasko 🤩

On 14 September 2026, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, and Budimex SA signed a contract to build the new AMU Archives building, including an update to the existing design documentation.

🗨 “We are delighted to be launching this project, which is of crucial importance for the preservation of the heritage of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań,” says the AMU Chancellor, Dr Marcin Wysocki. [...] "Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, a modern facility will be built for the AMU Archives, which for over a hundred years has been collecting and safeguarding documents bearing witness to the history of our university."

🗃️ The new building will bring the collections, currently scattered, together in one place and provide storage conditions that meet the highest archival standards.

🚀 The new Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Archive will be divided into three zones reflecting the building’s various functions. The Archive’s usable floor area will be approximately 2,500 m², and its total volume will exceed 13,000 m³. The contract value is over 32.5 million PLN net, and the main contractor has 18 months to complete the project.

Young legal historians from around the world have gathered at AMU ⚖️⌛

Yesterday, AMU welcomed participants to the 30th Annual Forum of Young Legal Historians, a key international gathering for the next generation of researchers exploring the history of Law 😁

🤝 Representatives of the AMU Rector's Office, along with the Deans of the AMU Faculty of History (Wydział Historii UAM) and the AMU Faculty of Law and Administration (Wydział Prawa i Administracji UAM Poznań), the two faculties organising this year's event, officially opened the forum.

💬 "We know very well that if our civilisation is to flourish – and I am absolutely convinced that our civilisation will flourish – it is only because we will abide by the law," said Prof. Rafał Witkowski, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, and he added: [...] We must know the history of law; we must understand its context and how it has evolved over the past centuries to be able to foresee what lies ahead."

👥 For 30 years, the Annual Forum of Young Legal Historians has provided a meeting place for researchers representing different legal cultures, historiographical schools and academic centres. The Forum itself has become a venue not only for presenting research findings but also for building an international community of young legal historians.

🌍 The conference brings together researchers from, among others, the United States 🇺🇸, Mexico 🇲🇽, Germany 🇩🇪, Italy 🇮🇹, Austria 🇦🇹, Switzerland 🇨🇭, Belgium 🇧🇪 and Hungary 🇭🇺, as well as representatives from Polish academic institutions 🇵🇱.

The event will last until 26 September. We wish everyone a fruitful event 😊

Can the language we use and our mood influence stereotypical thinking? 🤔🧠

Ollie Ochociński and Iga Wojtala, English philology students at the AMU Faculty of English, are exploring these questions as part of the IDUB ADVANCEDBestStudentGRANT V👏

🔬 The young researchers conducted a research project on the relationship between language, mood and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes in bilingual individuals.

💬 “Stereotypical thinking stems from relying on existing knowledge, something we also tend to do while in a positive mood,” they explain. “We were concerned with three different variables: language (native – Polish; second language, at an advanced level – English), mood, and the level of stereotype activation.”

📊 The study involved placing participants into either a positive or negative mindset through the use of short animated films. Afterwards, they completed tasks in either Polish or English. Their objective was to determine how well photographs of faces corresponded with words that are stereotypically associated with gender, such as “lipstick” or “hammer.” The researchers assessed both the participants' responses and the time taken to make their decisions.

💬 We observed the ‘foreign language effect’ exclusively in a positive mood. Furthermore, it proved necessary to consider another variable – the ‘magnitude of the mood change’, meaning how much the participants’ mood had changed, rather than simply whether it had shifted in the direction we expected,” say the students.

📑 The study is currently being summarised. The next step is to further interpret the results and prepare a research paper.

Ollie and Iga have already presented their research findings at the faculty’s Research Day and at the Poznań Linguistic Meeting. 📚
Their project illustrates that research can spark the beginning of an academic journey, from formulating a research question to experimenting and presenting results at conferences. 🤗👏🏼

What happens behind the laboratory doors that we don’t usually see? 🧪 What is the journey from a scientific question to an experiment and a discovery? 🔭 And what do scientists actually do?

The answers to these questions will be revealed on 25th September during Researchers’ Night ( Noc Naukowców Poznań) in Poznań 2026! 🌙✨

In the evening, Poznań’s universities and research institutes will open their gates to anyone curious about the unknown. Participants can enjoy experiments, demonstrations, workshops, and meetings with scientists, along with the opportunity to explore for themselves.

🎓 At Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, you’ll find laboratories and workshops to explore, meet scientists, and see what science is really like behind the scenes. It’s an opportunity not just to listen, but above all to ask questions, test things out and experiment.

🧪 Hands-on experiments? 🔬 Working with a microscope? 🧠 Testing your memory and reflexes? 🌌 The mysteries of the cosmos?

See for yourself 😉

The city of Poznań is once again welcoming linguists from all over the world! 👥🗫

Today, 21 September, the AMU Faculty of English (Wydział Anglistyki UAM) hosted the official opening of the 54th Poznań Linguistic Meeting (PLM2026). The guests at the conference were welcomed by Professor Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk, the Vice-Rector for Research at AMU 👏

🧠🎭🌱 This year's conference poses an important question: How can linguistics benefit from looking beyond its own boundaries? Under the theme "Linguistics in Dialogue: Exploring Parallels Beyond Language," researchers are seeking inspiration not only from linguistics itself but also from other fields such as biology, medicine, psychology, cognitive science, computer science, and the arts.

💡🎓 The program features plenary lectures, thematic sessions, workshops, and a poster session for early-career researchers, as well as the Grand Debate, which is traditionally one of the highlights of the conference.

The conference will run until Wednesday, September 23, inclusive.

Event details, including the current program, can be found in the comments section below ⬇️

From Poznań all the way to Lanzhou – AMU students have just embarked on a one-of-a-kind adventure 🇵🇱✈️🇨🇳

Fourteen students from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, have begun a 10-day international cultural and artistic program in China. This initiative, the YES Programme Silk Road Art & Folk Culture Study Tour, is organised by our partner institution, Northwest Normal University (NWNU) in Lanzhou 🤩

🎓 🌎This experience combines education, cultural and artistic engagement, and international cooperation. AMU students have the chance to explore China's beauty firsthand through classes and workshops at NWNU, interactions with local students and lecturers, and travels along the heritage of the Silk Road.

🗨 “Cooperation between universities is not only about agreements between institutions, nor even collaboration between lecturers. Above all, it is about creating opportunities for young people to meet, learn from one another and build relationships that can last far longer than a single programme or visit,” said Dr Kostiantyn Mazur from the AMU Centre for International Cooperation.

Among other things, students will enjoy:
🎨 traditional Chinese painting and Dunhuang art, ✍️ calligraphy and ancient script, 🏛️ Chinese cultural heritage, ⛰️ sketching in the Zhangye Danxia landscape, 💃 Dunhuang dance and mural painting workshops.

🤝 For our students, this represents an opportunity to gain international educational experience, develop intercultural skills, and explore Chinese art and heritage through the perspective of the local academic community.

How are climate change and growing tourism pressure affecting unique mountain ecosystems? 🏔️🥾

Scientists from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia are seeking answers as part of the international research project “Soil Mesofauna as an Indicator of Value in Alpine Habitats of V4 Countries,” funded by the International Visegrad Fund.

🤝 The project brings together representatives from research institutions and national parks across the Visegrad Group countries. Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, is represented by researchers from the Department of General Zoology (Zakład Zoologii Ogólnej UAM) of the AMU Faculty of Biology (Wydział Biologii UAM) - Dr Agnieszka Mokrowiecka and Dr Tomasz Rutkowski.

🔬 The primary goal of the research is to study the diversity of soil fauna in the alpine zone, with a particular focus on mites. 🏔️ Alpine habitats are extremely valuable and unique on a European scale, but at the same time vulnerable to degradation due to climate change and tourism pressure.

The team has already completed its first research expedition to the Karkonosze Mountains and Śnieżnik. In the coming days, the scientists will head to the Tatra Mountains to continue their fieldwork.
