Chasing the Horizon Tour 2016

We are a group of students of English and South African studies raising money for our educational trip to South Africa

We are a group of seven students of English and South African studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In February 2016 we are going to South Africa. We called this project "Chasing the Horizon Tour". We will see everything what we have learned about for the last three years. We will share with you all news about our big adventure as well as everything about the planing required. The tour is officially sanctioned and supported by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of English but we ourselves have to raise the money to cover the costs, primarily the tickets to South Africa and the expenses involved in travelling though the vast country, including the hiring of a minibus and the price of the fuel. The purpose of the tour is not only to put the skills acquired during three years of studying language, culture and history into practice, but also allowing for cultural exchange between South Africa and Poland - taking advantage at the unique opportunity to give South Africans an insight into our own language and cultural traditions. Our group are going to visit a number of South African universities, including Venda, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Free State, Stellenbosch and Rhodes. As in the past, we will be taking part in the Afrikaans community project in Soweto. We would appreciate any interest and contribution. We hope you will enjoy this tour with us and we'll do everything we can to make following this page worthwhile.

South Africans with a pinch of salt ;) Our experiences in South Africa confirm most of the points, ESPECIALLY the ones about braai and that "absolutely anything can happen on the back of a bakkie". ANYTHING.

South Africa is home, even if you've jumped ship and headed for greener pastures overseas. We all carry our little South Africanisms through life with us, and we are better human beings because of them

Today we've had a busy day in Bloemfontein. We've visited National Afrikaans Literary Museum, Vroue Monument and Nelson Mandela's Statue on Naval Hill.Greetings from the swimming pool!

Today we've spent a wonderful day at Osskop Farm. The attractions included herding cattle, counting sheep, climbing hills and swimming in a dam. Now we're waiting for a Boer braai.

We've had an amazing day today. We started it by visiting Hoërskool Sutherland where we talked about Poland and sang with the pupils. Now we're staying at Osskop Farm. As you can see yesterday we also visited the famous SALT (South African Large Telescope). Greetings from the Moon!

We've just came back from another braai but we're sharing our photo from Table Mountain. The view was absolutely stunning. Our lecturer Karen joined us for the whole day in Cape Town. Well, just another day in South Africa.

Yesterday we visited ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn , where we fed ostriches.
However, Adrian and Michał were our heros yesterday, when they faced death in Cango Caves during adventure tour.
