Take a look at the game's official status page, and you'll see notice after notice detailing "recoveries from DDoS" attacks, most of which kicked off in September, primarily affecting North American data centers. On a personal note, most of my gaming sessions, as someone who plays on one of these things, have been interrupted by a DDoS error at some point.

Final Fantasy 14's North American servers have been hammered by DDoS attacks since the release of Patch 7.4—I'd know, I play on them—which has players starting to grind their teeth in frustration. Especially given the release of the latest Savage (high-difficulty) raid tier, and the race to world first that buoys it.

Notably, one key hint that the walls once protected the city at the water's edge is the existence of iron rings that would have likely been used to moor sailing vessels.

If you can't resist a walk through history, a wander through Ulm's Fishermen's and Tanners' Quarter won't disappoint. There, you'll be treated to Renaissance architecture, bridges and waterways, and plenty of quaint cafes and shops. If visiting Germany for the first time, chances are your itinerary includes at least one huge, historic urban hub like Berlin, Munich, or Hamburg — the latter of which is a bit of an underrated German gem known as the "Venice of the North." But sandwiched between Stuttgart and Munich, in the southern part of the country, you'll find the charming city of Ulm. Better yet, because the drive takes less than two hours from either city, along with being easily reached via straightforward train routes, Ulm is a fantastic choice for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

Like many European cities, Berlin invites its visitors to explore and enjoy its many attractions as conveniently as possible. The Berlin Welcome Card is the least expensive way to gain access to nearly 200 museums and attractions. The card also allows for use of Berlin's impressive transit services, making navigation of the city less cumbersome. While it has an impressive intercity system, Berlin is also a well-connected European city via train. Soon, Berlin will be a stop along several new train routes rolling out scenic views in Europe.

Exploring Berlin feels like a mix of nostalgia, history, and forward thinking. It's a vibe here that gratifyingly mixes hope for the future with a recognition of a dark past. Steves rightly says that in Berlin "the fine line between history and current events is excitingly blurry." As modern, bustling hotels, cafes, and familiar sites like Starbucks welcome visitors to the city, so do monuments and memorials that recognize a brutal past.
