Miło nam ogłosić, że mamy nowego doktora! Dnia 26.07.2022 roku, Pani Barbara Klik obroniła z wyróżnieniem pracę doktorską pt. "Wykorzystanie substancji o właściwościach myjących pozyskiwanych z komunalnych osadów ściekowych do remediacji gleb zanieczyszczonych metalami ciężkimi". Recenzentkami pracy były Pani prof. dr hab. inż. Maria Włodarczyk-Makuła z Politechniki Częstochowskiej oraz Pani dr hab. Marta Pogrzeba, prof. IETU z Instytutu Ekologii Terenów Uprzemysłowionych. Promotorem pracy była Pani dr hab. inż. Dorota Kulikowska, prof. UWM, a promotorem pomocniczym Pan dr hab. inż. Mariusz Gusiatin, prof. UWM.

Piotr Jachimowicz, a PhD student from our Department, was awarded a scholarship from the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). Each year, approximately 60 scholarships are awarded in Central and Eastern Europe for the implementation of a research stay in a research unit chosen by the winner. At Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden (Germany) our PhD will learn how to detect microplastics in wastewater treatment systems with aerobic granular sludge. The student will cooperate with a team of Dr. Dieter Fischer, who has many years of experience in the detection of microplastics in water, sewage and sediments.

We are pleased to inform that we have a new dr Piotr Świątczak. The defense of the doctoral dissertation took place on 04.06.2019 at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, UWM in Olsztyn. The subject of the work was "Purification of digestate in a system with aerobic granular sludge and membrane filtration". The supervisor of the work was Dr Habil. Eng. Agnieszka Cydzik-Kwiatkowska, prof. UWM, and reviewers: prof. Hanna Obarska-Pempkowiak and Dr Habil. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, prof. PS. It should be added that the work has been awarded.

What is Bisphenol A (BPA)? You have certainly heard that it is a component of various plastic items, or you buy products that bear the word "BPA free". Can BPA be in wastewater? It turns out that it is a common micro-pollutant of wastewater, and hence in natural waters, in which it can impair the hormonal balance of living organisms. You can learn about the presence of BPA in aquatic environment, and the mechanisms and processes of BPA removal from wastewater from the new book entitled "Bisphenol A Removal from Water and Wastewater", whose authors are Magdalena Zielińska, Irena Wojnowska-Baryła and Agnieszka Cydzik-Kwiatkowska from the Department of Environmental Biotechnology.
