Office for International Cooperation UWM in Olsztyn

Last week we hosted at UWM guests from our partner University from Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies(LBTU)
For five days, representatives from LBTU explored Polish forest management as part of a "Staff Week" program as a part of PROM 2025 project.
Their guide was Prof. Piotr Mederski from the Department of Forestry and Forest Ecology (Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry), who highlighted the similarities and differences between forestry practices in both countries.
The participants visited locations such as the Silesian Beskids and the Miłomłyn Forest District, where they examined stands of the famous Tabórz pine. During the mobility there were discussed various aspects of climate change and its impact on forests🌳
The visit provided an opportunity to compare management methods and exchange experiences that could help identify solutions for Latvian forests. The meeting was made possible by the ChallengeEU alliance and the support from NAWA (NAWA Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej) 🤝💚

1st annual ChallengeEU conference!

There are moments you look forward to for a very, very long time. We had been looking forward to this one for more than a year! 🥹

Do you see this photo? We took it just moments after officially opening our 1st Annual Conference. It is a true family photo 🙌

Here we are — representatives of the nine universities that, several years ago, took on the challenge of creating something that would build bridges between our regions and communities. We are standing surrounded by friends and partners, including our Associated Partners and representatives of other alliances with whom we cooperate and from whom we want to learn 🤝

In short, we are standing here with people with whom we are ready to set off on the next stage of our journey.

The first working meetings and plenary sessions are already behind us — and, of course, we will tell you more about them here. But for now, we are simply beginning another day of this extraordinary adventure 🚀
