The kick that made an island 🏝️🦶

Long ago, a giant lived in the hills above Benidorm. One day he kicked the Puig Campana so hard that a piece of the summit flew over the town and landed in the sea. It became L'Illa de Benidorm.
On Finals Friday, Benidorm saw giant kicks again.

🇷🇴 A new World Record: 292 cm!
At the Final Gala, Andrei Ionut Chiriac cleared the target in the flying high front kick, asked for one more centimetre and kicked it with ease, breaking his own 291 cm record from Poreč 2025. Huge congratulations, Andrei! 👏

🇪🇺 Europe at the 10th ITF Taekwon-Do World Cup: by the numbers

The biggest ITF World Cup in history is under way in Benidorm, Spain, and Europe is powering it.

📊 65.3% of all athletes come from AETF nations: 1,751 of 2,681
🌍 30 of the AETF's 40 member nations (75%) are competing in Benidorm
🏆 7 of the 10 largest national teams are AETF members, led by Ireland (261 athletes), Spain (194) and Norway (170)
🥋 80.1% of all categories have a European majority, and in junior categories (ages 12–17) the figure rises to 91.9%

Europe is the engine of the ITF. Nearly 7 in 10 of all 12–17-year-old athletes in Benidorm represent an AETF nation, a clear sign of the strength of European clubs and national associations.

A balanced team. Team Europe is 53.1% male and 46.9% female, far closer to parity than the rest of the field.

Special technique is Europe's speciality: 78.0% of all special technique entries come from AETF nations.

Behind the athletes: Europe also brings 470 coaches (60.3%) and 67 umpires (52.3%) to the World Cup.

Thank you to every athlete, coach, umpire and national association that makes this possible. Good luck, Team Europe! 💪

🥋 PREPARATIONS CONTINUE FOR THE OPEN EUROPEAN ITF TAEKWON-DO CUP

On Thursday, 17 September, AETF President Master Tomaž Barada and Technical Director Grand Master Wim Bos met in Poreč with the event Organizing Committee, led by Master Slavko Jereb.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to review preparations for the Open European ITF Taekwon-Do Cup, taking place in Poreč from 11–13 December 2026.

Key areas discussed included:

🔹 Competition venue and operational planning
🔹 Registration numbers and accommodation capacity
🔹 Additional and higher-category hotel options
🔹 Competition schedule and official protocol
🔹 Responsibilities of the Organizing Committee and AETF Committees
🔹 Competition areas and umpire requirements
🔹 Venue branding and sponsor visibility
🔹 Media coverage and event promotion
🔹 Medal production and closing ceremonies

Special attention was also given to the presentation of the final AETF Ranking standings and awards ceremony, which will form an important part of the event programme.

The Open European Cup will be further promoted during the upcoming ITF World Cup in Benidorm, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the event to the international Taekwon-Do community and encourage further participation.

The meeting confirmed the strong cooperation between the AETF and the local Organizing Committee. Planning will continue, with final logistical and technical arrangements adapted to the number of participating competitors, teams and officials.

We look forward to welcoming the European and international Taekwon-Do community to Poreč this December!
