Project AMUSE Comprehensive Introduction of Augmented and Alternative Communication Methodology into the Ukrainian System of Education

The AMUSE project intends to establish active cooperation between the Ukrainian and European HEIs in the area of inclusive education and special needs education. The project will equip the pre-and in-service teachers with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methodology, required for successful learning of children with speech impairment. Based on this reliable methodology, our interna

tional initiative aims to positively affect the learning climate in Ukraine, particularly in terms of educators' readiness and skills, and creation of a more inclusive educational environment.

🇺🇦 Завершальний день навчального візиту в межах проєкту AMUSE Erasmus+ став фінальним етапом роботи над MOOC «АДК в освіті» (AAC in Education).

Учасники представили розроблені завдання до модулів, спільно проаналізували їх та обговорили типові помилки й необхідні доопрацювання. Також команда переглянула змонтовані відеоматеріали до модулів, оцінивши готовність і цілісність створеного освітнього контенту.

Цей день підсумував інтенсивну роботу над завершенням розробки MOOC — від доопрацювання та кодування матеріалів до створення відеоконтенту й наповнення освітньої платформи. Навчальний візит завершився врученням сертифікатів усім учасникам.



🇬🇧 The final day of the study visit within the AMUSE Erasmus+ project marked the concluding stage of our work on the MOOC “AAC in Education.”

Participants presented the tasks developed for the modules, analysed them together, and discussed common issues and areas for further improvement. The team also reviewed the edited video materials for the modules, assessing the overall coherence and readiness of the educational content.

The day brought together the results of several days of intensive work on finalising the MOOC — from refining and coding the materials to producing video content and uploading resources to the learning platform. The study visit concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants.

🇺🇦 Четвертий день міжнародного навчального візиту в межах проєкту AMUSE за курсом «Розробка MOOC» відзначився завершенням важливого етапу медіарозробки та цінним професійним обміном.

Протягом робочих сесій учасники продовжили активну роботу над наповненням курсу матеріалами, а також успішно завершили роботу з відзняття відеоматеріалів за усіма темами, сформувавши повну відеобазу для онлайн-курсу.

Особливою подією дня стало відвідування Narva Eesti Gümnaasium. Директор школи Ірен Каосаар тепло зустріла гостей, детально розповіла про історію закладу, особливості системи навчання та шкільні традиції, а також провела натхненну екскурсію сучасними шкільними кабінетами.
The fourth day of the international study visit within the AMUSE project, dedicated to coding the “AAC in Education” MOOC, marked the completion of an important stage of media production and provided valuable opportunities for professional exchange.

🇬🇧 During the working sessions, the participants continued developing and uploading learning materials and completed the filming of videos for all course topics. As a result, a complete video library for the future online course was created.

A special highlight of the day was a visit to Narva Eesti Gümnaasium. The school’s principal, Irene Käosaar, warmly welcomed the guests, introduced the history of the school, its educational approach and traditions, and guided the participants through its modern learning spaces.

🇺🇦 Третій день навчального візиту до Тартуського університету в межах проєкту AMUSE за програмою Erasmus+

Учасники продовжили роботу над МВОК «АДК в освіті»: доопрацьовували завдання та інтерактивні елементи, кодували й завантажували навчальні матеріали на освітню платформу.

Паралельно відбувся важливий та відповідальний етап знімального процесу: учасники успішно відзняли відеоматеріали одразу для двох модулів, реалізувавши підготовлені напередодні сценарії та методичні напрацювання.

🇬🇧 Day 3 of the Study Visit to the University of Tartu under the AMUSE Project within the Erasmus+ Programme

The participants continued working on the MOOC “AAC in Education”: refining tasks and interactive elements, coding and uploading learning materials to the educational platform.

At the same time, an important and demanding stage of the filming process took place: the participants successfully recorded video materials for two modules, putting into practice the scripts and methodological materials prepared the previous day.

🇺🇦 Другий день навчального візиту в межах проєкту Erasmus+ AMUSE був присвячений практичній роботі над проєктним MOOC. Учасники зосередилися на створенні зрозумілого, цікавого та добре структурованого навчального контенту для майбутнього онлайн-курсу.

Протягом дня команда працювала над модулями курсу та готувала матеріали для кодування й онлайн-реалізації. Особливу увагу приділили майбутній відеозйомці: сценарії та супровідні матеріали для всіх модулів ретельно переглянули й упорядкували. Спільна робота допомогла команді узгодити єдиний підхід до подання контенту та заклала міцну основу для наступних етапів розробки проєктного MOOC.

🇬🇧 The second day of the study visit within the Erasmus+ AMUSE project was dedicated to practical work on the project MOOC. The participants focused on developing clear, engaging, and well-structured learning content for the future online course.

Throughout the day, the team worked on the course modules and prepared materials for coding and online implementation. Special attention was given to the upcoming video production: scripts and supporting materials for all modules were carefully reviewed and organised. This joint work helped the team agree on a consistent approach to presenting the content and laid a strong foundation for the next stages of the project MOOC development.

🇺🇦 Міжнародний навчальний візит у межах проєкту Erasmus+ AMUSE, присвячений розробці MOOC, офіційно розпочався у Нарвському коледжі Тартуського університету. У перший день учасники ознайомилися із сучасними навчальними просторами, бібліотекою та цифровою інфраструктурою коледжу, створеною для підтримки інноваційної освіти. Олеся Головко поділилася практичним досвідом створення масових відкритих онлайн-курсів у Moodle та продемонструвала інструменти, які використовує для розробки й організації онлайн-навчання. Команда розглянула вже створений курс, обговорила його структуру та візуальне оформлення і відразу розпочала адаптацію окремих елементів до потреб проєкту AMUSE. Перші ідеї, рішення та практичні кроки до створення нового MOOC проєкту вже набувають конкретної форми!

🇬🇧 The AMUSE international training visit on MOOC development has officially started at Narva College of the University of Tartu. On the first day, participants explored the college’s modern learning spaces, library, and digital facilities designed to support innovative education. Olesia Holovko then shared her practical experience of creating massive open online courses in Moodle and demonstrated the tools she uses to develop and manage online learning content. The team examined an existing course, discussed its structure and visual design, and immediately began adapting its elements to the needs of the AMUSE project. The first ideas, solutions, and practical steps towards creating the project’s new MOOC are already taking shape!

🇺🇦 В Уманському національному університеті завершилися курси підвищення кваліфікації «Альтернативна й додаткова комунікація та універсальний дизайн в освіті», організовані в межах міжнародного проєкту Erasmus+ AMUSE.
Учасниками навчання стали педагогічні та науково-педагогічні працівники закладів дошкільної, загальної середньої та вищої освіти Черкаської та Житомирської областей. Програма поєднала теоретичну підготовку та практичні заняття, присвячені застосуванню альтернативної й додаткової комунікації (АДК), принципів універсального дизайну навчання, адаптації освітніх матеріалів і створенню доступного освітнього середовища. Після успішного завершення навчання всі учасники отримали сертифікати!
Проведення курсів стало черговим етапом реалізації проєкту AMUSE, спрямованого на впровадження європейських практик інклюзивної освіти та розвиток безбар’єрного освітнього середовища в Україні.

🇬🇧 Uman National University has successfully completed the professional development course "Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Universal Design in Education", organised within the framework of the Erasmus+ AMUSE international project.
The programme brought together teachers and academic staff from preschool, general secondary, and higher education institutions in the Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions. It combined theoretical training with practical sessions focused on the application of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the adaptation of educational materials, and the creation of accessible learning environments. Upon successful completion of the programme, all participants received certificates.
The course marked another important milestone in the implementation of the AMUSE project, contributing to the introduction of European inclusive education practices and the development of a barrier-free educational environment in Ukraine.

🇺🇦 З 8 по 12 червня 2026 року Громадською організацією «Здорове суспільство» було проведено курси підвищення кваліфікації «Альтернативна й додаткова комунікація та універсальний дизайн в освіті» в м. Одеса. В навчанні прийняли участь 29 фахівців сфери інклюзивної освіти: вчителі, вихователі, асистенти вчителя.
Програма навчання поєднувала в собі і тематичні лекції, і практичні завдання, під час яких учасники змогли зануритись в тему універсального дизайну в освіті, відчути себе у ролі учнів інклюзивного класу, попрацювати із різними засобами АДК, зробити план уроку у форматі універсального дизайну.
Учасники курсів відмітили, що тема навчання є актуальною для них. Навіть повітряна тривога не завадила отриманню корисного досвіду - навчання продовжилось в укритті.
«Відкрила для себе, що можна організувати навчання так, щоб кожна дитина змогла прийняти участь в уроці та реалізувати свої можливості»

🇬🇧 From 8 to 12 June 2026, the NGO Healthy Society delivered the professional development course “Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Universal Design for Learning” in Odesa. The course brought together 29 educators working in inclusive education, including teachers, preschool educators, and teaching assistants.

The programme combined thematic lectures with practical activities. Participants explored the principles of Universal Design for Learning, experienced learning from the perspective of pupils in an inclusive classroom, worked with various AAC tools, and developed lesson plans based on UDL principles.

The participants noted that the course addressed highly relevant issues for their professional practice. Even an air-raid alert did not interrupt the training, which continued in a shelter.

“I discovered that learning can be organised in a way that enables every child to participate in the lesson and fulfil their potential.”

“Augmentative and alternative communication was a new topic for me. I used to think it was intended only for children with disabilities. Now I understand that AAC can be beneficial for everyone.”

“I believe that such courses should be held regularly for all professionals working in inclusive education, as well as for parents.”

🇺🇦 Новий крок до безбар’єрної комунікації в освіті

24 червня 2026 року в Харківському національному педагогічному університеті імені Г. С. Сковороди відбулося офіційне відкриття Навчально-методичного центру розвитку альтернативної й додаткової комунікації в освіті.

Центр створено у межах проєкту Erasmus+ KA2 AMUSE. Його діяльність сприятиме розвитку інклюзивної освіти, впровадженню методології АДК та формуванню безбар’єрної комунікації для дітей із різними комунікативними потребами.

Захід об’єднав представників університету, здобувачів освіти, Національну координаторку Erasmus+ в Україні, координаторку проєкту AMUSE, партнерів із громадського сектору, батьків і дітей.

Після офіційного відкриття гості ознайомилися з напрямами діяльності Центру, його матеріально-технічним забезпеченням та засобами АДК, а наймолодші учасники долучилися до інтерактивного заняття, підготовленого здобувачами освіти й викладачами факультету початкового навчання.

Відкриття Центру є важливим кроком до створення освітнього середовища, у якому кожна дитина може спілкуватися, брати участь і бути почутою.


🇬🇧 A New Step Towards Barrier-Free Communication in Education

On 24 June 2026, H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University officially opened the Educational and Methodological Centre for the Development of Augmentative and Alternative Communication in Education.

The Centre was established within the Erasmus+ KA2 AMUSE project and will support the development of inclusive education, AAC methodology, and barrier-free communication for children with diverse communication needs.

The event brought together university representatives, students, the National Erasmus+ Coordinator in Ukraine, the AMUSE project coordinator, civil society partners, parents and children.
After the official opening, guests learned more about the Centre’s activities, facilities and AAC tools, while the youngest participants joined an interactive session prepared by students and lecturers of the Faculty of Primary Education.

The opening of the Centre is an important step towards an educational environment where every child can communicate, participate and be heard.

🇺🇦 Новий простір комунікації без бар’єрів відкрито в СумДПУ

22 червня 2026 року в Сумському державному педагогічному університеті імені А. С. Макаренка офіційно відкрито Навчально-методичний центр «Комунікація без бар’єрів». Центр створено у межах проєкту Erasmus+ AMUSE за підтримки Європейського Союзу для впровадження альтернативної та додаткової комунікації в освіту.

Сучасне обладнання, спеціалізоване програмне забезпечення та навчально-методичні ресурси допоможуть проводити тренінги, підвищувати кваліфікацію педагогів і розробляти комунікативні матеріали. Табличка біля входу, виконана також шрифтом Брайля, стала символом головної місії Центру — комунікації без бар’єрів для кожного.

Це важливий крок до більш інклюзивної, доступної та людиноцентричної освіти в Україні.



🇬🇧 A New Space for Barrier-Free Communication Opens at Sumy State Pedagogical University

On 22 June 2026, Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko officially opened the Barrier-Free Communication Educational and Methodological Centre. Created within the Erasmus+ AMUSE project and with the support of the European Union, the Centre will promote the use of augmentative and alternative communication in education.

Equipped with modern resources and specialised software, it will support teacher training, professional development, workshops and the creation of communication materials. The Braille sign at the entrance has become a powerful symbol of the Centre’s mission: communication without barriers for everyone.

This is an important step towards more inclusive, accessible and human-centred education in Ukraine.

🇺🇦 Відкриваючи шляхи до комунікації: курси з АДК і новий інклюзивний освітній простір у СумДПУ

У Сумському державному педагогічному університеті пройшли курси підвищення кваліфікації «АДК та універсальний дизайн в освіті», організовані в межах проєкту Erasmus+ KA2 AMUSE.

Курси об’єднали педагогів закладів освіти м. Суми та Сумського району, а також викладачів університету навколо практичних підходів до створення доступного й комунікативно дружнього освітнього середовища.

Учасники працювали з принципами універсального дизайну навчання, адаптацією освітніх програм, інструментами АДК, педагогічним спостереженням і стратегіями підтримки дітей із мовленнєвими та функціональними труднощами.

Окремою подією стало знайомство з новим освітнім простором, створеним у межах проєкту AMUSE, де представлено інтерактивну дошку, інтерактивний стіл, ноутбуки, засоби для створення візуальних матеріалів і спеціалізоване програмне забезпечення Boardmaker та TD Snap.

Навчання дало учасникам не лише нові знання, а й практичні інструменти для того, щоб кожна дитина могла активніше брати участь у навчанні, комунікувати й відчувати себе включеною.

🇬🇧 Sumy State Pedagogical University hosted the professional development course “AAC and Universal Design in Education” as part of the Erasmus+ KA2 AMUSE project.

The course brought together educators from Sumy and the Sumy region, as well as university lecturers, to explore practical ways of creating accessible and communication-friendly learning environments.

Participants worked with Universal Design for Learning, curriculum adaptation, AAC tools, pedagogical observation and strategies for supporting children with speech and functional communication difficulties.

A special highlight of the programme was the introduction of the new educational space created within the AMUSE project, equipped with an interactive board, an interactive table, laptops, visual material tools and specialised software such as Boardmaker and TD Snap.
The training offered not only knowledge, but also practical instruments for helping every child participate, communicate and feel included in the educational process.
