European Studies / JP II Catholic University of Lublin

European Studies / JP II Catholic University of Lublin The Institute of European Studies has been established on October 1, 2009 within the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration.

European Studies at KUL are interdisciplinary studies that develop interests connected with European history and culture and the ability to understand and analyze the social, political, legal and economic phenomena that occur in the European Union. Its creation had been preceded by initiating of the new degree: European Studies, in the academic year 2008/2009. Since October 2011 Instutute offers

two new degree programs taught exclusively in English: Bachelor of Arts in European Studies and Master of Arts in European Studies. The classes for students are taught in a modern building located in the center of Lublin (called Collegium Iuridicum), where the traditional lecture halls of old Lublin School have been adjusted for the needs of multimedia based teaching methods. The Institute is composed of 4 departments (Department of European Union Law, Department of Political Science, Department of Negotiations and Mediation and Department the Foundations of Civil Law and International Private Law). Faculty teaching in the degree programs offered in English comes from various University Departments, bringing to the Institute heritage of academic traditions from Oxford, Leuven, Paris, London, Notre Dame, Chicago, Washington D.C. and many other intellectual centers. It makes our interdisciplinary teaching and research possible. Following completion of the European Studies program graduates will be fluent in areas that are a key part of European legal regulations. They will be specialists in the scope of European problems and will acquire professional skills that are demanded on the European labor market. These studies will provide not only the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, but also supplement this knowledge with very important practical skills. The Institute has a strong working relationship with both national and International institutions. This cooperation leads to many opportunities for European Studies students to serve an apprenticeship as various institutions, including the European Parliament with a member of Parliament, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, unites of the central and local government, the Rule of Law Institute and other non-governmental organizations. Students also can participate in the Erasmus European Student Exchange Program. The program of the European Studies puts a heavy emphasis on language learning, encouraging both written and spoken fluency. Apart from obligatory English, students will also learn a second European language. Additionally, many of classes offered at the Faculty and University are taught in languages other than Polish.
