The team at the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Medical University of Lublin ( ) is maintaining its momentum in the development of academic robotic surgery 🏥.

Following the first robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy performed last week, the surgical team—led by Prof. Karol Rawicz-Pruszyński and Dr. Maksymilian Podleśny—carried out another robotic gastric resection today on a 75-year-old patient with locally advanced cancer.

The Department is also actively participating in the Gastrodata 2.0 project—Europe’s largest data registry for patients with gastric cancer and cancer of the esophagogastric junction.
As the national lead for this initiative, Prof. Rawicz-Pruszyński has joined the speaker lineup for the plenary session at the upcoming European Gastric Cancer Congress, taking place in Kraków on October 2–3. During the session, he will present the Department’s research findings on optimizing treatment for cancer patients, including the use of minimally invasive techniques.

English-speaking fifth-year medical students and first-year doctoral students, as part of their Polish medical elective, visited the Pharmacy-Museum in Lublin today. It was incredibly interesting!
The prescription registration book, as well as the historical production of ointments in tubes and pills, were particularly interesting. It was a great opportunity to see how the history of medicine and pharmacy connects with what the students are learning in class today.

Next week, we'll embark on another medical tour of Lublin and its history. 🩺💊📚

Bordeaux Summer School 2026 featuring representatives from 🌎
Dr. Katarzyna Targowska-Duda, Akanksha Mudgal, and Dr. Olga Wronikowska-Denysiuk represented our University at the prestigious Bordeaux Summer School “Neural circuits of pain: from physiology to pathology,” which took place June 1–5, 2026, at the Université de Bordeaux.
The event’s program included lectures by world-class experts and hands-on workshops showcasing state-of-the-art methods in neurobiological and pain research. Our representatives had the opportunity to work with advanced techniques such as optogenetics, fiber-optic photometry, calcium imaging using a miniscope, light-sheet microscopy, and two-photon imaging.
During the summer school, they also presented the results of their research during an international poster session, establishing valuable scientific contacts and potential research collaborations.
Participation in the event was made possible thanks to grant and institutional support under the SONATA BIS program, Erasmus+, the Doctoral School, NAWA, and the Initiative of Excellence – Research University (IDUB) program.
Congratulations, and we wish you continued success on the international stage!
