East European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on December 4, 2025, after a long and difficult battle with a chronic illness, at the age of 71, Professor Zdzisław Kiełbowicz, PhD, DSc, Dr h.c.,
passed away, a member and co-founder of the East European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology.

Professor Kiełbowicz was an outstanding and widely respected veterinary surgeon. For many years, he headed the Department and Clinic of Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, playing a key role in the development of modern surgical techniques and in the education of many generations of veterinarians.

He served as Head of the Commission for Veterinary Specialization and was for many years the National Supervisor of the Specialization in Veterinary Surgery. He was also a member of the Scientific Council of the National Veterinary Research Institute in Puławy.

Professor Zdzisław Kiełbowicz was an exceptional educator and scientist, the supervisor of numerous doctoral theses, a reviewer of many habilitation proceedings, and the author of an impressive body of scientific work. His knowledge, authority, and dedication to academic life left a lasting mark on the scientific and professional community.

He will remain in our memory not only as an eminent physician and academic teacher, but also as a noble human being - a husband, father, and grandfather.

Z głębokim żalem zawiadamiamy, że w dniu 4 grudnia 2025 roku, po długiej i ciężkiej walce z przewlekłą chorobą, w wieku 71 lat zmarł
Śp. Prof. dr hab. dr h.c. Zdzisław Kiełbowicz,
Członek oraz współzałożyciel East European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology.

Profesor był wybitnym i powszechnie cenionym chirurgiem weterynaryjnym. Przez wiele lat kierował Katedrą i Kliniką Chirurgii Wydziału Medycyny Weterynaryjnej Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego we Wrocławiu, odgrywając kluczową rolę w rozwoju nowoczesnych technik zabiegowych oraz w kształceniu wielu pokoleń lekarzy weterynarii.

Pełnił funkcję Kierownika Komisji do Spraw Specjalizacji Lekarzy Weterynarii, a także przez wiele lat był Krajowym Kierownikiem Specjalizacji w zakresie chirurgii weterynaryjnej. Był również członkiem Rady Naukowej Państwowego Instytutu Weterynaryjnego - Państwowego Instytutu Badawczego w Puławach.

Profesor Zdzisław Kiełbowicz był wybitnym dydaktykiem i naukowcem, promotorem wielu prac doktorskich, recenzentem licznych przewodów habilitacyjnych oraz autorem imponującego dorobku naukowego. Jego wiedza, autorytet i oddanie pracy akademickiej pozostawiły trwały ślad w środowisku naukowym i zawodowym.

Pozostanie w naszej pamięci nie tylko jako wybitny lekarz i nauczyciel akademicki, lecz także jako szlachetny człowiek - mąż, ojciec i dziadek.

Rodzinie oraz Bliskim składamy wyrazy najgłębszego współczucia.

Understanding functional neuroanatomy is the basis for neurological examination, which leads to the correct localization of the lesion in the nervous system. Localization is alpha - omega of clinical neurology. Also, the extent of the lesion must also be determined. Then we can easily plan a diagnostic workshop for the expected differential diagnoses. With this webinar, we would like to show a simple approach from practice.

🎉 The 10th EESVO Ophthalmology Conference ended with an exciting highlight – a prize draw!
The draw was conducted by our keynote speaker, Dr. Rick F. Sanchez. Among the lucky winners were two vouchers for next year’s EESVO conference – awarded to a veterinarian from Hungary and a veterinarian from Poland.

After a long battle with illness, we have lost not only a distinguished member of the veterinary ophthalmology community but also a truly remarkable soul. Christine Heinrich had a unique gift for brightening every room with her smile and infecting everyone around her with her boundless sense of humor.
During the recent conference, dr. Rick F. Sanchez dedicated his lectures to her memory, honoring the life and legacy of Christine. She was an active ECVO diplomat and co-owner of the Eye Veterinary Clinic in Hereford, UK. Her presence enriched our community, bringing warmth, light, and inspiration that will be deeply missed.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
