This week our university had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Amar Bennadji (SFHEA) from Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen to our Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology.

The visit took place as part of the STARS EU alliance and opened up inspiring conversations on international research collaboration. Prof. Bennadji met with Prof. Dariusz Bogdał and Prof. Katarzyna Matras-Postołek and delivered a lecture titled "Circular Construction in Application" drawing students, PhD candidates, and faculty alike.

Prof. Bennadji's research focuses on circular and bio-based construction, energy retrofitting of buildings, and sustainable heritage, thus topics that align with the challenges the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology is tackling today.

Great exchange of ideas, where circular construction meets chemical engineering! 🤝

How can digital technologies reshape the way we experience Europe’s musical heritage? That question lies at the heart of PlaceMUS XR (“Digital Journey across Musical Places in Europe and Extended Realities”) - a Horizon Europe research project combining virtual and augmented reality, immersive audio, and multimedia storytelling to create new ways of discovering places connected with music across Europe.

The project explores musical heritage through architecture, historical context, instruments, scores, soundscapes, and living performance traditions, while developing open-source tools and datasets aligned with FAIR principles and integrated within the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH).

In April, representatives of the Faculty of Architecture took part in the first research activities and field tests within the PlaceMUS XR project.

The CUT team included:
• Prof. Magdalena Kozień-Woźniak, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture,
• Klaudia Stala, Professor at CUT,
• Marta Fąfara, PhD,
• Anna Marek, MSc, Eng.,
• Rafał Zieliński, PhD

They worked alongside partners from CNRS MAP UPR 2002:
• Iwona Dudek, PhD,
• Jean-Yves Blaise, PHD,
• Simon Fargeot

The team was also joined by sound director Kamil Madoń (Classical Music Media) and organist Piotr Michalik.

📍The research took place in the remarkable Church of St. Peter and Paul in Tyniec, part of the oldest abbey in Poland.

The first stage of the project included:
🔹 spatial documentation and 3D scanning
🔹 live organ music recording
🔹 acoustic research
🔹 interviews and fieldwork

The collected materials will become the foundation for immersive XR experiences connecting musical performance, architectural heritage, and historical soundscape reconstruction. It was a fascinating moment where architecture met music, and centuries-old spaces entered the digital dimension. 🎧

Meet the Drug Design Student Research Group (Chemia i Technologia Leków Drug Design) at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology! 🧪

In the ministerial project "Student Research Groups Create Innovation" of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, everything begins at the in silico stage, where chemistry meets computer science.

This is where Inez and Paweł, our molecular modelling specialists, work 🔬They build digital models of the mutated EGFR receptor and identify which molecules have the greatest potential to block it. It is like finding the right key for a lock, just at the molecular level.

They also analyse how stable those bonds are over time in order to select the most promising structures before they ever reach the synthesis stage.

👉 This is the very first step in designing new targeted therapies for non-small cell lung cancer. Because a good drug starts with a good idea - and that idea is born right here. 💊🧠

🔬🇺🇸 Photo4Chem in Las Vegas!

Our spinout Photo4Chem - born from the research of Prof. Joanna Ortyl's team at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology - has made it to the United States as one of 10 companies selected in the first round of the prestigious NCBR-USA accelerator programme.

The team is currently in Las Vegas, pitching their innovations in photochemical technologies, 3D printing and additive manufacturing to American investors, venture capital funds, and innovation ecosystem partners. This week includes the Polish Startup Innovation Demo Day as well as one-on-one B2B meetings with potential investors and collaborators.

Making it into the top 10 out of Poland's best startups and micro-enterprises is a huge achievement — and a testament to the cutting-edge research happening right here at CUT. 🏆

Go Photo4Chem! 🚀✨

On 8 May 2026, the "Działownia" hall welcomed graduates of the Master's programmes in Architecture (2025/26) and Landscape Architecture (2024/25) for their diploma ceremony - a milestone that marks not just the end of studies, but the beginning of careers that will shape the built environment around us.

The ceremony was hosted by Dean Prof. Magdalena Kozień-Woźniak and included addresses from university leadership, as well as guests representing Poland's wider architectural community — among them the Małopolska Regional Chamber of Architects (Małopolska Okręgowa Izba Architektów RP), the Association of Polish Architects (SARP Oddział Kraków), the Polish Society of Town Planners (Towarzystwo Urbanistów Polskich), and — notably — Tracy Flanagan, Validation Manager at the Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA), whose presence underlines the international recognition of the Faculty's programmes.

Diplomas with distinction were awarded jointly by the Dean and Vice-Rector Prof. Tomasz Kapecki. The celebration closed with an invitation to the opening of the "Diploma of the Year 2026" exhibition — showcasing the very best graduate work from the Faculty.

Congratulations to all graduates! 🏛️✨
