International Conference on Anthropology of Tourism

Celem konferencji jest nakreślenie ram antropologii turystyki. The aim of conference is to outline the scope of the anthropology of tourism.

W 2014 roku upłynęło 40 lat od historycznego spotkania antropologów zrzeszonych w The American Anthropological Association, którzy podczas konferencji w Mexico City dali podwaliny dla powstania nowej specjalizacji: antropologii turystyki. Prawie pół wieku doświadczeń to dobry moment na podsumowanie najważniejszych nurtów i wskazanie kluczowych problemów, które legły u podstaw badania turystyki z perspektywy antropologicznej. Rozwój antropologii turystyki pokazuje, jak ważnym elementem kultury stało się w ostatnich kilkudziesięciu latach podróżowanie, zarówno w wymiarze fizycznego przemieszczania się, jak i wędrówek wirtualnych. In 2014 we are celebrating 40 years since the conference of the anthropologists associated with The American Anthropological Association in Mexico City, that gave the basis for the establishment of the anthropology of tourism. After several decades, it is a good moment to summarize the most important directions of anthropological research on tourism, as well as pointing out the key issues which have created the background for studying tourism within this perspective. The development of the anthropology of tourism shows that travelling has become one of the crucial elements of culture, both in the dimension of physical mobility and virtual trips.

Międzynarodowa Konferencja “ Anthropology of Tourism – dziedzictwo i perspektywy” dobiegła końca. Pragniemy podziękować wszystkim, którzy sprawili, że konferencja się odbyła: wszystkim uczestnikom i prelegentom za poświęcony czas, chęć przybycia i podzielenie się swoim doświadczeniem z innymi, partnerom i tym, którzy wzięli udział w procesie planowania i organizowania wydarzenia. Mamy nadzieję, że wszyscy uczestnicy szczęśliwie dotarli do domu, czekamy również na kolejne spotkanie. W najbliższych dniach prześlemy także komunikat dotyczący publikacji.

The International Conference “Anthropology of Tourism – heritage and perspectives” has come to an end. We would like to thank everyone that made the conference possible: all of the attendees and speakers for their time and willingness to come and share their experiences with others, all of the partners, and finally everyone who took part in planning and organising the event. We hope everyone had a safe trip back home and we wait for the next meeting. We are currently in the process of creating a publication with our findings of the conference so stay tuned.
