On the 27th & 28th of May we have organised the VI Krakow Jewish Studies Conference: Boundaries in Instytut Judaistyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. During the conference young researchers from Poland, Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Japan and Israel have presented their papers.
Boundaries - the topic of this year’s conference - have played a central role in shaping Jewish identities, communities, and relationships – both within Jewish societies and in relation to the Other. At the same time, Jewish historical and cultural experiences are deeply marked by the crossing, negotiation, and renegotiation of boundaries: geographic, social, linguistic, cultural, religious, and symbolic.
This conference explored boundaries not only as lines of division or exclusion, but also as
zones of contact, exchange, tension, and transformation.
Keynote speech entitled "Real and Imagined Boundaries: Revising Concepts, Theories, and Myths" was given by dr Anat Vaturi from the University in Haifa.
We would like to thank all the speakers and participants for their engagement and inspiring contributions!
The conference has been supported by a grant from the Wydział Historyczny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego under the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at Jagiellonian University.
