The emotions from this years "Genomica" conference are slowly settling down! 🥹
Over a week ago, on May 15–17, the jubilee 10th edition of the Student Biotechnology & Genetics Conference "Genomica" took place! 🧬 After over half a year of intense work, hundreds of hours of preparation, a fair dose of stress, and many sleepless nights, our highly anticipated event finally came to life! 🎉
During these extraordinary three days, we had the opportunity to:
🧠 Listen to fascinating lectures by our Special Guests: Dr. Ondřej Štěpánek, Dr. Mostafa Bakhti, and Dr. Żaneta Matuszek.
🗣️ Get inspired by the wonderful research presented during 3 oral sessions.
📊 Admire brilliant scientific projects during as many as 4 poster sessions.
🤝 Talk to our sponsors and patrons at their booths and listen to their insightful lectures.
And in the meantime...
☕ We drank hectoliters of coffee.
💬 We had dozens of passionate discussions during lunch breaks.
🍻 We had a great time bonding in the informal atmosphere of the Bracka 4 pub!
The level of this year's conference exceeded our wildest expectations, making the 10th edition the biggest one yet! 🌍 We managed to create a truly international event, bringing together nearly 200 participants from 5 countries and many prestigious scientific institutions.
We would like to take this opportunity to send a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this success. Thank you to the main organizers (Alicja, Marta, and Rebeka), the entire co-organizing team, the Board, and the members of the Student Association of Biotechnology Students "Mygen" 🤝. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to our irreplaceable volunteers – thank you for your dedication, time, and the heart you put into helping us every step of the way! ❤️
We are honored by the presence of our Special Guests and thank them for sharing their expert knowledge 💡. We are also incredibly grateful for the support of our sponsors and patrons, without whom this event could not have taken place. Thank you as well to every speaker, passive participant, and the Scientific Committee that ensured the high academic standard of the presentations. 🔬
Now it's time for some well-deserved rest and tying up the last organizational loose ends. Stay with us and keep an eye on our profiles – a comprehensive recap of the event will be coming soon! 📸
Thank you for being with us. See you in 2027! 👋✨

We are pleased to announce that on Saturday, May 16, at 11:00, there will be a lecture led by a representative of Bioceltix, Mateusz Berezowski, titled "Veterinary Biotechnology - Stem cell-based therapies at a turning point".
Below is the abstract of the lecture:
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have gained increasing attention as a class of biological therapeutics due to their capacity to modulate immune responses and influence tissue homeostasis. Their activity is largely mediated through paracrine signaling, including the secretion of cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles.
In veterinary medicine, conditions such as osteoarthritis in dogs and horses are characterized by chronic inflammation and progressive tissue degeneration, providing a biologically relevant context for MSC-based interventions. A deeper understanding of MSC functional biology is therefore critical for the development of consistent and effective therapeutic strategies.
This presentation will highlight the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying MSC-mediated immunomodulation and discuss their relevance in selected canine and equine diseases. The approach developed by Bioceltix will be presented, alongside a broader perspective on emerging challenges and future directions in the development of stem cell-based therapies in veterinary medicine.
You are welcomed to meet Bioceltix representative at the booth:
Friday: 13:40–14:40 and 17:40–18:40
Saturday: 11:30–13:30

The Polish Bioinformatics Society (PTBI) works to support the development of bioinformatics and promote this field in Poland. One of its key goals is to bring together people interested in bioinformatics from various scientific disciplines, including mathematics, the natural and technical sciences.
PTBI supports both experienced bioinformaticians and those who are just beginning their journey in this field. It assists active researchers, by publishing job offers and organizing symposia that help develop research skills and professional competencies.
The Society is also involved in supporting students and early-career researchers through the establishment of the Council of Student Scientific Associations and by supporting their annual BioMeeting Conference. In addition, it organizes competitions for the best bachelor’s, engineering, master’s, and doctoral theses in bioinformatics, and shares knowledge and experience through a newly created Discord server available to PTBI members.

We are pleased to announce that on Friday, May 15, at 15:45 there will be a lecture led by a representative of Genomed, Piotr Małysa, titled "NGS sequencing in microbiome analysis - comparison of available sequencing approaches using the example of V3-V4 16S rDNA metabarcoding service at Genomed S.A."
Below is the abstract of the lecture:
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) currently represents one of the key tools used for the analysis of microbial diversity. These methods are widely applied in studies of the microbiome of various environments. An important step in experiment planning is the appropriate selection of a sequencing strategy, depending on the type of tested samples.
Genomed S.A. provides NGS services based on technologies developed by Element Biosciences (AVITI platform), Illumina (NovaSeq and MiSeq platforms), as well as long-read sequencing technologies - Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Pacific Biosciences. Each of these approaches has different technical parameters, costs and limitations.
One of the most commonly used, cost-effective, and sensitive approaches for microbiome studies is metabarcoding based on sequencing of the V3-V4 hypervariable regions of the 16S rDNA gene. At Genomed S.A., this service is performed on the AVITI platform in PE300 mode. Compared with analogous analyses performed on Illumina platforms, the AVITI system enables the generation of higher-quality sequencing data at a lower service cost while maintaining the standard output format (.fastq files).
The application of long-read sequencing technologies may further improve taxonomic resolution in microbiome analyses. However, these approaches are associated with higher costs and specific requirements regarding the quantity and quality of DNA extracted from the analyzed samples.
