The international Conference of Young Ecologists and Evolutionary Biologists, this year will be held online on 27-30 May. students are welcome.

The subject of the conference concerns ecology and evolutionary biology of all organisms. Participants can make a speech or prepare a poster concerning their own research or present a review on a topic they find interesting. The conference is addressed to young scientists – all undergraduates, graduates, MSc and Ph.D. The Conference will be held on 27-30 May 2022.

Today it is two weeks from the beginning of the conference, so it's time for a little summary :D

It was the 10th edition of the event and the first one which focused both on evolution and ecology. Despite the remote form (or maybe thanks to it?), the conference was very popular - over 200 people (including 50 presenters) from 33 countries took part in it. We are happy to receive such an international company 🌍

We thank the Organizing and Scientific Committees for preparing the event. Also, we thank the participants and guests for presenting interesting topics and active participation in discussions!

We invite you to the next edition of the conference, which will probably take place next year 🧑‍💼

Dear participants!

We present you the conference program 📋
See you tomorrow!

Dear science enthusiasts!

We are honored to introduce to you our third plenary speaker, prof. Wilco Verberk (Radboud University, Netherlands).

Wilco Verberk is an associate professor at Radboud University Nijmegen. He obtained his PhD in Freshwater Ecology in 2008, for his study on species traits to explain patterns in assemblages of aquatic invertebrates. During his 3-year post-doc in the UK, prof. Wilco studied the (respiratory) physiology of ectotherms to better understand their thermal niche and their life-history. In his research, he combines experimental studies to uncover specific mechanisms at work, and meta-analyses to test whether such knowledge can be generalized to other species.

Dear science enthusiasts!

We are honored to introduce to you our second plenary speaker, dr hab. Piotr Łukasik (Jagiellonian University, Poland).

Dr Piotr Łukasik is an M.Sc. in Biology graduate from Jagiellonian University (2006). He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Oxford (2011), then conducted research at Drexel University, University of Montana (U.S.A.), and Swedish Museum of Natural History before starting the Symbiosis Evolution Research Group at the Institute of Environmental Sciences of Jagiellonian University (2019).

His research has focused on the biology of interactions between insects and their symbiotic microorganisms. Primary research directions include the evolution of ancient nutritional symbioses that enabled significant evolutionary transitions and the ecology of more dynamic facultative associations likely to play a role in insect responses to the ongoing climate and ecological crisis.

Dear science enthusiasts!

We are honored to introduce to you our first plenary speaker, PD Dr. Dina Dechmann (Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior, Germany).

"If I had to categorize myself I would call myself a classical behavioral ecologist with a passion for evolution. My emerging focus is increasingly on the role that resource distribution in time and space plays for animals. What are the strategies animals use in terms of their behavior, morphology, and physiology to deal with daily, seasonal, or even rare bottlenecks in resource availability?"
Dr. Dina Dechman focuses her research on bats and is involved in the ICARUS initiative.

Dear Participants!

If you are curious who keeps the scientific level of our conference up to par and checks your abstracts, we present to you the Scientific Committee 🧑‍🔬

By the way, we would like to thank the Committee for their contribution to organising the conference and, most importantly, for checking all 58 submitted abstracts 💙💚

07/08/2021

Dear Participants!

The abstract submission is closed.
Therefore, we encourage you (especially the youngest participants) to publish an article based on your presentation in a special conference issue of the journal "Wychuchol"! 📚

CYEEB 2021 organizer – the Student Naturalists Association – has been publishing the popular science journal "Wychuchol" since 2006. Articles in our magazine are reviewed by scientists.
The previous editions were published in Polish. However, this year, we decided to publish an issue in English centred around the conference. Therefore, we encourage you to share your work in the form of a popular science article 2–8 pages long.
Here you can find instructions for authors: https://wychucholczasopismo.wordpress.com/chce-napisac-artykul/

The first deadline for text submission is August 30 but, we will extend it if you need more time :D

25/07/2021

Dear science enthusiasts!

There is still some time for the conference, and we know that during holidays you are very busy so we decided to once again extend the deadline for submitting abstracts.
The final deadline is August 2.
Info for people who have already sent abstracts and need to upgrade them - the deadline for sending a corrected version is August 16.
The deadline for the registration of passive participants is August 30.

Dear followers
Our conference begins in 50 days
We look forward to seeing you!

If you are curious, how the neighbourhood of the conference’s organisers looks like... We want to take you on a virtual trip around the meadows close to the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland!

These are wet meadows with high biodiversity and many protected species, part of Natura 2000. We hope we will meet in Kraków the next year and you can see them with your own eyes 😃☘️

06/07/2021

Dear science enthusiasts! We want to inform you that the registration for the conference is extended.

New deadline for abstract submission: July 23th
