In the center of Krakow on Kanonicza Street, even the tenement houses and their wisdom stones cry out together...

Nosce te ipsum!

(know yourself)

W centrum Krakowa na ul. Kanoniczej nawet kamienice i jej kamienie mądrością wołają...
Nosce te ipsum!

🔷 What is contemporary? Should an engineer familiarize themselves with philosophy? Why are critical thinking and elements of analytical philosophy so important in creating modern, complex technical systems? Dr. Paweł P***k, professor at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, discussed these matters on May 14th during the Tarnów Electrical Engineering Days.

🔷 The concept of philosophy in technology was initiated by and continues to be developed at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow by our staff and lecturers: Prof. Paweł P***k and Dr. Roman Krzanowski. It is one of the most important contemporary proposals for the analysis of technology. This approach arose from Rev. Prof. Michał Heller's concept of philosophy in science. It is worth adding that Rev. Michał Heller published his text entitled "Philosophy in Science: How is Philosophy Possible in Science?" So, after all this time, what is the relevance of Heller's inspirations today?

🔷 The Tarnów Electrical Days 2026 provided an opportunity to emphasize the importance of philosophy for the numerous professional electrical engineers and technical school students gathered. Inviting philosophers to such an industry event is a sign of the role that such advanced philosophy plays in the modern world. It is worth adding that Rev. Prof. Michał Heller listened with great interest to how we are developing his ideas today. This year, Philosophy in Technology hosted the fifth edition of the international Philosophy in Technology conference (https://sts.pwr.edu.pl/aktualnosci/po-konferencji-pint-2026-144.html).

This concept is also being used to shape the philosophy curriculum for technical studies in Quebec, Canada (more on that soon...).
