Winter Kindergarten of Theoretical Physics is a students' idea to popularize mathematical way of learning about the nature. Conference is organized in partnership with the 50th Winter School of Theoretical Physics. Leading scientists from the School will give special lectures for participants of the Kindergarten and all School's courses will be open for them. There will be also an opportunity to s

hare your knowledge during additional lectures, short presentations and poster session. Scientific classes will be interspersed with skiing, snowboarding and mountain trips. Everything will take place in beautifully located Karpacz in Sudetes.

Conference is just around the corner so let us introduce our esteemed guests that agreed to give their lectures during our conference!

Prof. Joseph Kapusta - "Professor Kapusta has been a faculty member in the School of Physics and Astronomy since 1982. He enjoys teaching physics at all levels, from the introductory freshman-level to the most advanced research-oriented course for graduate students. His main research areas are in theoretical nuclear and particle physics. He has published several books and more than 200 articles in physics journals and conference proceedings. Nineteen students have earned their Ph.D. under his supervision. He has been an Associate Editor for Physical Review since 1997. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a Distinguished University Teaching Professor." [1]

Prof. Constança Providência - "My present interests focus on the understanding of neutron stars and determination of constraints on the equation of state of dense hadronic matter at both zero and finite temperature. I am particularly interested in study of exotic matter inside a neutron star, the pasta phase occuring in the inner crust, the effect of the density dependence of the symmetry energy on the star properties, the hadron-quark phase transition, the liquid-gas phase transition, the effect of ultra strong magnetic fields on the hadronic equation of state and the QCD phase diagram." [2]

PhD Fiorella Burgio - "I'm a nuclear astrophysicist working on the Equation of State of nuclear matter and its implications for the structure of Neutron Stars and the fundamental processes in its interiors. Those are subject matter of the Iniziativa Specifica NEUMATT (NEUtron star MATter Theory) of the INFN Commissione Scientifica Nazionale IVCSN4." [3]

Between the 23rd and the 29th of February students from the Scientific Society “MIGACZ” organised The Winter Kindergarten of Theoretical Physics conference. It took place in the Conference Centre “Raven Rocks” in Karpacz, Poland, which was in a close vicinity of Hotel Artus where The Winter School of Theoretical Physics was held. The premise of the Winter Kindergarten is giving participants the possibility of attending lectures held at the School by world renowned physicists.
The conference officially begun when everyone arrived at the Raven Rocks and started with an evening welcoming party, so that all participants could get acquainted with each other. It wasn’t a long party as some had still some work to do for upcoming days and/or were tired after long travel. The first day of the Kindergarten started with morning lectures at the School, after which the solargraphy workshop was held and everyone had the chance to create their own solargraphy camera. The cameras had to be “Installed” in a place that would see the most sun, so some students even climbed the rock formation “Raven Rocks” and installed the camera on the view point (See photos). Next followed a couple of short speech sessions (5 speeches 30 minutes long, to be exact) and the day ended with a short evening party.
Tuesday also begun with lectures at the School, but the rest of the day was packed with short speech sessions (9 students). Wednesday was the day that everyone had a chance to relax, some went on a trip to reach mountain top Snieżka (1,603 m), some stayed in the hotel and got a chance to use the SPA and some attended more lectures at the School (these knowledge hungry physicists ;d). The day ended with yet another evening party.
Thursday started again with lectures at the School, after which Prof. David Blaschke came to Raven Rocks to give his guest lecture “The Pauli principle in dense nuclear matter”. What followed were short speech sessions (7 students) and of course the day ended with an evening party.
Friday was officially the last full day of the conference, it started with lecture at the School which was followed by a guest lecture given by Prof. Mark Alford “Quantum Mechanics and the Weirdness of Nature”. After a longer break (enough to use the SPA before the dinner) the solargraphy workshop took place and the students got a chance to see if their cameras took a nice picture. The workshop was followed by Poster session (4 posters) and the day ended with a party, but not a normal party. The goodbye party started with a game called speech roulette, it meant that a student was assigned a (pseudo-)random speech that was given during the conference, the author wrote 3 forbidden words which (together with the forbidden phrases “Don’t know/ Don’t care”) when used gave the player a punishment in the form of a penalty drink. As we saw everyone had a lot of fun during this game!
We’d like to once again thank everyone for participating in our conference, hope that you’ll advertise this conference to your fellow physics students and we’ll see you next year for another awesome week of stimulating discussions, speeches, posters and overall good time.

David B. Blaschke, Professor for Theoretical Physics of the Institute for Theoretical Physics, the University of Wroclaw, Leading Scientific Reseacher of the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics JINR (Dubna, Russia), is a well-known expert in the fields of elementary particle physics and astrophysics, in particular, physics of nuclear matter under extreme conditions.

"The Physics of Neutron Star Interiors".

Prof. Armen Sedrakian is a a theoretical physicist and astrophysicist. He does research at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) located at the campus of Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). He also is the Professor at Wroclaw University.

We have a great pleasure to introduce the first guest lecturer at our conference.

Prof. Mark G. Alford from Washington University in St. Louis (USA) will deliver a lecture titled "Quantum Mechanics and the Weirdness of Nature"

Prof. Mark G. Alford graduated B.A. studies at Oxford University. He obtained M.A. and then PhD. degree at Harvard University. Now, he works as Chair and Professor of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis (USA). His research interests are nuclear astrophysics, quark matter and quantum chromodynamics.
