⚛️ Gdańsk Tech researchers have received funding from the National Science Centre Poland under the MINIATURA 10 programme. Among them is Michał Piłat, PhD Eng., an alumnus of our Doctoral School. 👏

His project focuses on developing the multiconfiguration Dirac–Fock method - one of the most advanced computational approaches used in quantum mechanics.

During a research visit to Vilnius University, he will work on extending the method to calculate parameters describing inelastic electron-atom collisions. The results may support research into astronomical and laboratory plasma, including processes occurring during supernova explosions and in tokamaks. 💻🔭

It’s another step in Michał research career and an example of how expertise developed within the Gdańsk Tech academic community can lead to advanced research and international collaboration. 👏

🧬 The latest issue of Nature Communications features research co-authored by scientists from Gdańsk Tech, including our PhD student Michał Jurkowski, MSc Eng., and Kazi A. Hossain, PhD, a graduate of our Doctoral School. 👏

As members of the international Ascona B-DNA Consortium, they contributed to one of the largest computational studies of DNA ever conducted. Their work helped analyse and visualise an extraordinary 0.25 petabytes of data, advancing our understanding of DNA mechanics while supporting the development of future AI-powered research tools. 💻🧠

We are proud to see members of our doctoral community contributing to research that lays the foundation for future scientific discoveries. 👏

After being recognized among the top 100 young researchers in Poland in the START programme by the Foundation for Polish Science, Aleksandra Mirowska, Ph.D., Eng. and Patryk Błaszczak, Ph.D., Eng. joined Radio Gdańsk to talk about their research and why technologies concern all of us.

🧪🦷 How do you connect capturing CO₂ from industrial emissions with modern dentistry? And how do you complete a PhD in chemistry while studying dentistry at the same time?! 🤯

Meet Dr Eng. Joachim Eichenlaub, a graduate of our Doctoral School who proves that true scientific passion knows no boundaries!

In Prof. Adam Kloskowski's research team at the Faculty of Chemistry, Joachim applied QSPR modeling to investigate ionic liquids as potential "green" solvents and carbon dioxide absorbents. ♻️ Today, as a researcher and lecturer at the Medical University of Gdańsk, he applies similar modeling approaches to dental materials and is launching new collaborative research on the antibacterial potential of ionic liquids with researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk Tech. 🤝

Jak przewidzieć właściwości związków bez drogich i czasochłonnych eksperymentów? Dr inż. Joachim Eichenlaub, absolwent Szkoły Doktorskiej i Wydziału Chemicznego na Politechnice Gdańskiej wykorzystał modelowanie matematyczne, które pozwala na powiązanie struktury chemicznej cząsteczek z ich właściwościami fizykochemicznymi. Badał głównie ciecze jonowe jako pochłaniacze dwutlenku węgla ze spalin. Teraz będzie rozwijać te badania w stomatologii.

🎉 More achievements to celebrate in our Doctoral School community!

We are proud to share that members of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk Tech have been recognized in the 11th edition of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Gdańsk Branch) Award Competition for Young Scientists, which honors outstanding scientific publications and significant contributions to the advancement of research.

👏 Ewelina Pawelczyk, a doctoral candidate at the Doctoral School, received an Honourable Mention in Exact and Earth Sciences for her publication on advanced catalysts for syngas production from plastic waste, contributing to research in sustainable chemical technologies and resource recovery.

👏 Dr Eng. Katarzyna Drozdowska-Czubek, a graduate of the Doctoral School, received an Honourable Mention in Technical Sciences for her publication on a hybrid Au-graphene-TiO₂ chemiresistive gas sensor, advancing the development of innovative sensing technologies.

The competition recognizes exceptional research achievements of young scientists from the Pomeranian region and highlights publications that make a significant contribution to their respective scientific disciplines.

🎉 Another reason for our community to celebrate!

We are proud to share that two graduates of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk Tech, Dr Eng. Olga Ciupak and Dr Eng. Krzysztof Łuksza, have received the 2025 Award of the Mayor of Gdańsk and the Gdańsk Scientific Society for outstanding scientific achievements among early-career researchers.

The award is granted annually to outstanding scientists under the age of 35 and recognizes exceptional research achievements across various academic disciplines.

🔬 Dr Eng. Olga Ciupak was recognized for her doctoral dissertation on novel folic acid structural analogues and conjugates as inhibitors of steroid sulfatase (STS), contributing to research at the intersection of chemistry and potential therapeutic applications.

⚡ Dr Eng. Krzysztof Łuksza received the award for his doctoral dissertation focused on advanced sensorless control methods for five-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines, contributing to the development of modern electrical drive systems and energy conversion technologies.

Congratulations to our graduates on this remarkable achievement! We are delighted to see the impact of their research being recognized and wish them continued success in their scientific careers. 👏

A successful PhD journey is just the beginning of a great scientific career. Four researchers from Gdańsk Tech have just proved it on a national scale! 💡

We are extremely proud to share that one current PhD student and three alumni of our Doctoral School have been recognized among the top 100 brightest young academic minds in Poland, winning the prestigious START scholarship by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). 🚀Odkrywamy tajemnice kosmosu! W przestrzeni międzygwiazdowej zidentyfikowano już ponad 300 związków chemicznych. Naukowcy z całego świata badają, w jaki sposób powstają te cząsteczki i jak potrafią przetrwać w ekstremalnych warunkach panujących w kosmosie.

Dr inż. Natalia Tańska-Witczak, absolwentka Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology i adiunktka na Wydział Fizyki Technicznej i Matematyki Stosowanej PG, jest autorką rozprawy doktorskiej poświęconej oddziaływaniom elektronów z cząsteczkami ważnymi dla zrozumienia zjawisk chemicznych występujących w przestrzeni kosmicznej.

✨Jej badania dostarczają danych, które mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w modelowaniu procesów zachodzących w atmosferze planet i przestrzeni międzygwiazdowej.

Wyniki pomiarów absolutnych przekrojów czynnych na rozpraszanie elektronów są pierwszymi takimi wynikami dostępnymi w literaturze dla badanych cząsteczek." .👏

Promotorem rozprawy był dr hab. Paweł Możejko, prof. PG, dziekan WFiMS (dane z badań realizowanych przez prof. Możejko zostały wykorzystane m.in. przy określaniu zawartości glicyny w komie komety 67P/Czuriumow-Gierasimienko).
