The 1950s and 1960s were a time of dynamic growth for the Medical Academy in Bialystok.
It was during this period that the first departments and clinics were established, and the theoretical sciences found their home in the newly built Collegium Primum.
In the following decades, the Academy continued to expand:
📌 1968 - the Department of Dentistry was established
📌 1977 - the Faculty of Pharmacy with Medical Analysis was founded (today known as the Faculty of Pharmacy with Laboratory Medicine)
A major breakthrough came in 2004, with the introduction of English-language studies, which opened the University to the world and transformed it into a truly international academic centre.
Another milestone followed in 2008, when the institution gained university status and became the Medical University of Bialystok.
Today, we look with pride at this remarkable journey - from a local medical academy to an internationally recognised medical university.
And what about you? Which area of MUB would you like to develop most - dentistry, pharmacy, or medicine - and why?

On 3 February 1950, the Medical Academy in Bialystok was officially established - becoming the tenth medical academy in post-war Poland.
It was a symbolic milestone that firmly placed Białystok on the map of Polish medical education.
The newly founded Academy chose the historic Branicki Palace as its seat - a decision that was both practical and symbolic.
With its rich heritage and architectural splendour, the Palace became the heart of science, education, and the future of medicine.
The first Rector, Professor Tadeusz Kielanowski, was a physician, researcher, and visionary who set the course for the young institution.
🔍 Now a question for you: how do you imagine the lives of the very first medical students in 1950s Białystok? What challenges might they have faced in post-war Poland?

The ACPGMD is one of the largest diagnostic centres in Poland and the leading facility in north-eastern Poland.
It is here that modern medicine meets cutting-edge technology to provide patients with fast and highly precise diagnostics.
Our services include:
🔬 Histopathological and cytological examinations
🔬 Immunohistochemistry for detecting specific cellular markers
🔬 Advanced genetic testing based on NGS technology, applied in the diagnosis of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and BRCA-related conditions
We also place a strong emphasis on the development of digital pathology - the analysis of microscopic images supported by digital tools and telepathology.
This approach paves the way for more accurate, faster, and remotely accessible diagnostics for patients across the country.
In your opinion, how will digital pathology reshape the standards of medical diagnostics in the future?

The Biobank of the Medical University of Bialystok is a state-of-the-art facility that collects and preserves biological materials - such as blood, tissues, cells, and bodily fluids - under strictly controlled, high-quality conditions.
It is a place where everyday clinical practice meets the science of tomorrow.
One of the Biobank’s key initiatives is the Oncology Collection - a unique set of samples from patients with various types of cancer, including lung, stomach, colon, and pancreatic tumours.
These resources enable long-term studies, the identification of cancer biomarkers, and the advancement of personalised medicine - where treatments are tailored to each individual patient.
🔍 And you? Would you ever consider donating your biological samples for scientific research that could help save lives in the future?

At the Laboratory of Metabolomics and Proteomics, part of the Clinical Research Centre at the Medical University of Bialystok, we conduct both targeted and untargeted metabolomic analyses, as well as comprehensive proteomic studies.
We work with samples such as plasma, urine, tissues, and cells in order to:
🔬 Identify new disease biomarkers
🔬 Monitor treatment effectiveness and disease progression
🔬 Pave the way for more precise diagnostics and personalised therapies
Thanks to this research, patients may soon gain access to diagnostic methods that, until recently, seemed beyond reach.
And you? Which type of biomarkers do you think would be most valuable - lipid metabolites, proteins, or microRNA?
