Lois Lowry popełniła kiedyś taką książkę: The Giver. Jest to historia o utopijnym / dystopijnym świecie, w którym wszyscy są... szczęśliwi / bezpieczni / tacy sami - you choose.

Jest to świat bez "memories".

🇬🇧 “The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.”

W edukacji jest to - niestety - czas pożegnań. Tak ma być. Macie rosnąć i iść do przodu. Zapakujcie wspomnienia.

Czytam właśnie 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.

Na goodreads.com przeczytasz, że:

🇬🇧 "Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature."

I coś w tym jest. Czytam właśnie, że mam się bardziej pokazać:

🇬🇧 "Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all costs. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colourful, more mysterious than the bland and timid masses."

I tak sobie myślę, czy rzeczywiście tego chcę, bo boję się takiej atencji. Nie jestem przecież a rock star.

Czytam też, że:

🇬🇧 "Court scandal. Do anything to make yourself seem larger than life and shine more brightly than those around you. (...) Better to be slandered and attacked than ignored."

I myślę sobie też, że nie chcę być ani "slandered", ani "attacked", ani "ignored". Bo robimy tutaj fajne rzeczy. Jestem głęboko przekonany, że sam fakt uczenia się języka angielskiego się obroni.

To samo w sobie jest "larger than life" - a popular idiom used to describe people, events, or objects that seem more exaggerated, impressive, or exciting than what is typical in everyday reality

Dzisiaj jest dzień wyjątkowy, bo ktoś wyjątkowy obchodzi urodziny.

Tak to już jest, że czasem chcemy się ogrzać w blasku kogoś wybitnego - ja też tak mam.

David Attenborough obchodzi dzisiaj swoje setne (!) urodziny. Happy Birthday Sir i dziękuję najpiękniej.

To między innymi dzięki Niemu, angielski brzmi tak niesamowicie. To ludzie pełni pasji - jak On - sprawiają, że ten świat jest trochę lepszy.

Był to rok 1952, kiedy młody David Attenborough zaczął swoją karierę dla BBC.
W roku 2015, na polskiej maturze, na poziomie dwujęzycznym pojawił się tekst, który przewidywał koniec kariery Davida Attenborough.

Dzisiaj, 08.05.2026, Sir David Attenborough obchodzi swoje setne urodziny i wciąż możemy Go słuchać.

Od dzisiaj nie może się już bawić klockami Lego...

Z ogromną przyjemnością podzielę się paroma cytatami:

To Wasze Święto i chcecie się cieszyć. Niech to będzie początek czegoś znacznie większego!

Egzamin maturalny jest ważny, ale nie definiujcie się przez ten jeden wynik. Jesteście - jesteśmy - ja też tam niedawno byłem - czymś znacznie większym niż procentowy wynik jakiegoś testu.

Bo dzisiaj jest tak śmieszkowy dzień. Podaruj komuś książkę, zobacz ich reakcję. Ktoś się ucieszy, inny przestraszy - może być wesoło, bo przecież, jak pisał Ray Bradbury w Fahrenheit 451, w książkach musi coś być:

O żartach też coś wspomniał:

Czy lubisz się czasem wzruszyć?

Mogłeś już widzieć "Life is Beautiful" lub "The Intouchables". Mogłeś też czytać "Of Mice and Men" lub "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Ale znasz tę historię?

W Internecie przeczytasz, że jest ona "misattributed to" Ernest Hemingway. Że to niekoniecznie prawda, że rzucono mu wyzwanie by wzruszył świat w sześciu - serio (!) - słowach.

Gotowy?

🇬🇧 "FOR SALE. BABY SHOES. NEVER WORN."

Nie możemy milczeć w obliczu tragedii, która dzieje się w: IRAN, GAZA, PALESTINE, LEBANON. A to tylko kilka z wielu miejsc, w których niepotrzebnie giną ludzie.

I takich baby bucików, nigdy nie noszonych będzie więcej.

Stanley, a po co ci ta szkoła...?

Po wielokroć! Ale najbardziej z umiłowania wolności i literatury. To bezpieczna przestrzeń - dla Uczniów, Lektorów i dla mnie. To tutaj możemy wszystko.

Nie da się być obojętnym w obliczu wojny. To jest dramat zwykłych ludzi, który został Im zafundowany przez ważnych tego świata. Ponurym żartem są żałosne domagania się o Pokojową Nagrodę Nobla.

Wiersz "Do Prostego Człowieka" Juliana Tuwima - niestety - jest dzisiaj równie prawdziwy, jak wtedy kiedy Tuwim go napisał.

Literatura zna wielu piewców wolności. Zobacz:

Nieważne w imię czego, pamiętaj, że:

Choć będą próbowali Cię zmylić:

hej Teacher! Co robisz w wakacje?

Remont ostatnio robiłem. 39 - choć nie brzmi tak dobrze jak 67 - to poważny wiek i czasem trzeba coś wymienić.

Zęby są wciąż ok. Waga do zaakceptowania - chociaż lekarz zalecił zrzucenie paru kilogramów. Wyobraź sobie moje oburzenie! Niestety, BMI też jest przeciwko mnie.

Ale do rzeczy...

Z wiekiem (doświadczeniem?) stajesz się lepszym użytkownikiem języka, każdego języka. Ja sobie przypomniałem, że istnieje coś takiego jak:

🇬🇧 hernia

Nie, to nic fajnego i wcale nie polecam. Polecam unikać. Ale jak już wygrasz tyle w życiu, to tak możesz o tym mówić:

🇬🇧 Stanley is recovering from a hernia operation.
🇬🇧 If you have a hernia, it will not heal on its own.
🇬🇧 She was taken into hospital for a second hernia operation in January 2008. - bo to podobno lubi nawracać...
🇬🇧 I'm going into hospital for a hernia operation on Tuesday.
🇬🇧 In the summer of 2008 he underwent a hernia operation.
🇬🇧 I went into hospital to have a hernia repaired.
🇬🇧 I am at high risk of getting a hernia because I already have a weakness in my abdomen.
🇬🇧 I had to go in for an operation just due to having a hernia from doing too much of the manual lifting.
