A special meeting with Sally Potter took place on 14th June. The meeting was a part of the Transatlantic Festival 2018 in Łódź. More: Transatlantyk Festival 2018
Sally Potter (born 1949) is an English director and screenwriter. The most famous film she directed is Orlando (1992), an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando: A Biography” (1928) starring Tilda Swinton.
During the meeting, Sally Potter was awarded with FIPRESCI 90+ award. Afterwards, Sally engaged in a lovely conversation with Jay Weissberg, a critic from the “Variety” magazine. They talked about filmmaking, Sally Potter’s artistic background and the way she works with actors. She highlighted how important each role is for her and the acting crew. Sally also emphasised a huge responsibility of every film director for the performance of the actors.
Before the screening of Orlando, a Q&A session took place. We managed to talk with Sally for a moment and we fell in love with her persona! :)
There couldn’t be a conversation with Sally Potter without discussing Virginia Woolf’s book’s adaptation. During the Master Class, Sally elaborated on how she created Orlando. We learnt about unscripted scenes and musical pieces Sally created herself for the sake of the film.
The screening ended with a round of applause.
We hope to meet Sally again in the near future :)
