🎉 The SustDesignTex Project Came to a Successful Close!

After three exciting and productive years, the SustDesignTex project officially concluded on September 30, 2025.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to everyone who contributed to this journey. Together, we’ve fostered innovation, shared expertise, created meaningful connections, and opened doors to future collaborations.

On June 9–10, 2025, the 10th Jubilee Forum of Intelligent Development was held in Uniejów, Poland. The event brought together leaders from science, industry, and academia for two days of engaging discussions, lectures, and workshops focused on the future of innovation and sustainable development.

Among the distinguished participants was our project coordinator, Professor Marcin Barburski, who presented the latest outcomes of the SustDesignTex project. Prof. Barburski also participated in the panel discussion on "Industry 5.0 – Ecology, Humanity, and Crisis Resilience".

In recognition of his impactful research and dedication to innovation, Prof. Barburski was awarded the prestigious "Leader of Intelligent Development 2025" statuette.

Participation in scientific conferences is essential for disseminating research findings and fostering connections with like-minded professionals. From May 21 - 23, 2025, our esteemed researchers from Lodz University of Technology - Professor Zbigniew Stempień and Professor Marcin Barburski - proudly presented their latest research from the SustDesignTex project at The Fiber Society 2025 Conference, hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

This year's conference, with the inspiring theme "Future Fibers for Wellbeing, Intelligence, and Sustainability," brought together global experts committed to shaping the future of fiber science and technology. We are proud to contribute to this forward-thinking dialogue and to exchange ideas with leading researchers from around the world.

From April 28–30, our team participated in the iCongress 2025: Fashion–Textiles–Wearables conference in Manchester, sharing insights from the SustDesignTex project and engaging with experts in sustainable textiles.

🔹 Prof. Marcin Barburski presented on “Life Cycle Assessment of Natural Fiber-Reinforced Composite Materials”, offering key insights into eco-friendly material solutions.
🔹 Dr. Tsegaye Lemmi delivered a talk on “Sustainable Development Aspects and Challenges in Textile-Reinforced Composites”, addressing critical sustainability challenges in the textile composite sector.

Participation in international conferences like iCongress is a vital part of our strategy to disseminate research findings, engage with peers, and expand our professional network in the field of sustainable design and materials.

👏 We’re proud to share that Professor Marcin Barburski, coordinator of the SustDesignTex project, has been recognized as a Laureate of the Intelligent Development Leader 2025 Award! 🏆

He is being honored for his outstanding contributions to the development of technical textile structures for use in composites, as well as woven structures for conveyor belts—including the implementation of an innovative tubular conveyor belt design based on a woven structure.

This award also highlights his commitment to promoting and communicating the societal benefits of research and innovation.

InnovaTex2025 International Conference 04/02/2025

From January 22-24, conference brought together 120+ participants from 13 countries at Lodz University of Technology to explore innovations beyond textiles. With expert keynotes, groundbreaking research, and industry-academia collaborations, the conference focused on mechanical textile recycling, circular economy, AI-driven sustainability, and the EU Textile Strategy. InnovaTex 2025 International Conference
The exhibition showcases projects in the field of sustainable fashion as well as material research used in the design of textiles and products. Circular solutions address both the materials themselves and design strategies, including recycling, upcycling, and zero-waste. The works of artists/designers – faculty members of the Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design at Lodz University of Technology – and their students, young creators from the undergraduate and graduate Design program, are on display.

TUL researchers wrap up a fruitful exchange at the University of Zaragoza 03/12/2024

The two-month staff exchange program in the SustDesignTex project at the university of Zaragoza has wrapped up, making a remarkable journey for seven researchers from Lodz University of Technology(TUL).

From producing sustainable composite materials for firefighting drones to creating textile sensors, this collaboration achieved significant milestones in sustainability. Beyond research, the team participated in cultural and academic activities, building long lasting network between the institutions.
