The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) is one of the most prestigious engineering institutes of Pakistan. Over the years, the institute has produced bright, innovative graduates employed at some of the most respectable firms all over the world. The Institute aspires to be a center of excellence in engineering sciences and technology, which acts as an effective agent of change and a model for others to emulate. It is autonomous and independently chartered and is funded by the private sector. It strives to attract faculty of outstanding talent and ability to provide the students a supporting and enabling environment. It hopes to produce graduates who distinguish themselves by their professional competence, humanistic outlook and ethical rectitude, pragmatic approach to problem-solving, and organizational and managerial skills. Given these attributes, they should be able to respond adequately to the needs of Pakistan and be the vanguard of their techno-industrial transformation. Learning Beyond the Classroom | Tarbela Dam Visit
Participants of the GIKI Advanced AI Bootcamp 2026 visited Pakistan's largest hydropower facility, Tarbela Dam, for an immersive look at engineering at national scale.
The visit covered the auxiliary spillways and powerhouse operations, along with detailed briefings and demonstrations of the dam's working model, offering students first-hand insight into how large-scale infrastructure is designed, monitored, and managed.
The 8-week bootcamp is organized at the GIK Institute in collaboration with the Ashar Aziz Foundation, SkyElectric, and SkyLabs.

GIK Institute hosted a national dialogue on "𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝙊𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙖𝙮 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙," convening government leadership, academia, and industry to advance Pakistan's minerals and materials sector through the Minerals and Materials Research Consortium (MMRC) and the Triple Helix (Government–Industry–Academia) Model.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Arif Ahmadzai, Minister for Minerals, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as Chief Guest, with Haji Abdul Karim Khan, MPA (Ex-Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Technical Education), joining as Guest of Honour.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Dr. Fazal Khalid, SI, Rector, GIK Institute, underscored the need for stronger university–government–industry collaboration to build a knowledge-based economy and develop the skilled human capital required for future industries.

The proceedings were further graced by Prof. Dr. M. Mujahid, Rector, Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology; Prof. Dr. Tahir Irfan Khan, Rector, Abbottabad University of Science and Technology (AUST), who moderated the high-level stakeholder dialogue; and Maj Gen (Retd.) Dr. Syed Najeeb Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Institute of Space Technology (IST).

A keynote presentation on the MMRC and the Triple Helix Model was delivered by Dr. Abdul Mateen, Chairman, Department of Minerals Resources Engineering, Pak-Austria Fachhochschule, Haripur, whose efforts, along with those of Prof. Dr. Imran Khan, shaped the MMRC organizing committee and the platform's launch.

Industry perspectives were contributed by representatives of Rehman Minerals, Indus Minerals, and AA Minerals, who highlighted market opportunities, processing challenges, and the value of deeper industry–academia partnerships.

Deliberations focused on building a national research ecosystem for minerals and materials sciences, promoting mineral value addition and advanced processing, strengthening research partnerships, and ensuring sustainable and responsible use of Pakistan's mineral resources.

Through the MMRC, GIK Institute reaffirms its commitment to research-led national development and a globally competitive, technology-driven minerals industry.

GIK Institute Observes Youm-e-Istehsal, Reaffirms Solidarity with the People of IIOJK
The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) observed Youm-e-Istehsal on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, joining the nation in marking seven years since India's illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, which sought to alter the internationally recognized disputed status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).
A commemorative event was held at the Seminar Hall, Incubation Center, organized by the Department of Student Affairs in coordination with the CSS Club. The observance was attended by Rector GIK Institute, Prof. Dr. Fazal Khalid, SI; Pro-Rector (Administration), Brig. (R) Babar Miraj Shami, and Pro-Rector (Academic), Prof Dr S. M. Hasan Zaidi; along with Deans, Directors, faculty members, officers, staff, and students of the GIKI community.
One minute of silence was observed in tribute to the sacrifices of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The programme featured a documentary marking the seventh anniversary of the actions of 5 August 2019 and their consequences for the people of IIOJK, followed by addresses from students of the GIKI CSS Club Tabina (Batch 33), Zainab Naveed (Batch 34), and Abdullah Bilal (Batch 35).
The students traced the history of the dispute from 1947 to August 2019, reminding the audience that Kashmir is above all a question of people and calling on their generation to choose dialogue over division.
Addressing the gathering, Rector Prof. Dr. Fazal A. Khalid expressed unwavering solidarity with the people of IIOJK, paying tribute to their courage, resilience, and steadfast resolve.
The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation of the GIKI community's solidarity with the people of Jammu & Kashmir and prayers for their well-being.
