Independence Day Celebrations: Plantation Drive Held at University of Swat
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the University of Swat organized a special plantation drive to promote environmental sustainability, greenery, and a sense of responsibility towards the national environment.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim, along with senior university officials, faculty members, administrative staff, and other participants, took part in the plantation activity. The participants planted saplings at designated areas of the university campus, reaffirming their commitment to making the campus greener, healthier, and more environmentally friendly.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that plantation is not only essential for protecting the environment but also represents a practical expression of patriotism. He highlighted the importance of collective efforts to combat climate change, improve the environment, and provide a healthier future for coming generations.

The 79th Independence Day of Pakistan celebrated at the University of Swat with great national spirit, enthusiasm and patriotic zeal. A flag-hoisting ceremony was organized at the University premises to commemorate the historic occasion and pay tribute to the sacrifices of the national heroes who rendered invaluable services for the creation and development of Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim, along with faculty members, officers and administrative staff of the University. The national flag was hoisted with due respect and dignity, while the participants expressed their commitment to the sovereignty, integrity and progress of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim extended his heartfelt felicitations to the faculty, officers, administrative staff, students and the entire nation on the 79th Independence Day. He said that Independence Day is not merely a day of celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of those who struggled for Pakistan and to renew our commitment to the principles of unity, faith and discipline.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that universities have a vital role in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan by producing educated, skilled and responsible citizens. He urged faculty members, administrative staff and students to contribute positively to national development through quality education, research, innovation and service to society.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim said that the younger generation is the future of Pakistan and must be equipped with knowledge, character, critical thinking and a strong sense of responsibility. He stressed the importance of promoting peace, tolerance, unity and harmony, while working collectively to address the challenges facing the country.
The Vice Chancellor also paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces, national heroes and all those who have made sacrifices for the security, stability and prosperity of the country. He prayed for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan and for the success of the nation in overcoming its challenges.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the stability, sovereignty and development of Pakistan. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to playing their respective roles in strengthening the country and upholding the values and ideals for which Pakistan was created.

University of Swat Concludes Seven-Day Training Program on Climate-Resilient Agriculture
The seven-day specialized training program titled “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Remote Sensing for Sustainable Water Management and Drought Monitoring” successfully concluded at the University of Swat. The training was organized by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qasim, Vice Chancellor, University of Swat, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Fazal Mabood, Dean, Dr. Wajid Rashid, Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Anwar Hussain, Director ORIC, and Mr. Iftikhar Alam, Assistant Director Liaison, were also present on the occasion.
The seven-day training, held from July 27 to August 2, 2026, was specifically designed for students of the Department of Environmental Sciences to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in the application of remote sensing and geospatial technologies for climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable water resource management, and drought monitoring.
During the concluding ceremony, Dr. Anwar Hussain, Director ORIC, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Khalil ur Rahman, the resource person, for dedicating his valuable time and providing students with practical demonstrations and hands-on learning opportunities. He appreciated the efforts of the resource persons and the Department of Environmental Sciences for making the training program successful.
The participants actively engaged in the training sessions and benefited from both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations related to remote sensing and its applications in addressing emerging challenges in agriculture and environmental management.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, certificates were distributed among the participating students in recognition of their successful completion of the seven-day training program.

Department of Chemistry, University of Swat M.Phil. scholars defends research theses by scholars of Session 2024–25, marking another significant achievement in the university’s academic and research activities.
Ms. Nasreen successfully defended her M.Phil. research thesis under the supervision of Dr. Mian Gul Sayed, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Swat. Her research was evaluated by the external examiner, Prof. Dr. Naveed Omer, Department of Chemistry, University of Malakand. A notable achievement of her research was its presentation at an international conference in Saudi Arabia held at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dammam. The research work was presented at the conference by her supervisor, Dr. Mian Gul Sayed, reflecting the quality and international recognition of the research conducted under his supervision.
Mr. Izhar also successfully defended his M.Phil. research thesis under the supervision of Dr. Rahim Shah, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Swat. His thesis was evaluated by the external examiner, Dr. Nasir Ullah, Assistant Professor, Government Postgraduate Jahanzeb College, Swat. His successful defense reflects his hard work, dedication, and commitment to academic and scientific research.

University of Swat Scholars Successfully Defend M.Phil. Economics Theses
The Department of Economics & Development Studies, University of Swat, is pleased to announce the successful defense of M.Phil. Economics research theses by Mr. Abdul Aziz and Mr. Amjad Ali, scholars of Session 2024–25.
Both scholars successfully defended their research theses under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Umar Hayat. The thesis defense was evaluated by the external examiner, Dr. Ibrar Hussain, University of Malakand.
