In a remarkable cultural and spiritual journey, a group of Buddhist tourists from Malaysia visited the ancient Manthal Buddha Rock in Skardu.

The visitors performed religious rituals and offered prayers at the historic site, reflecting deep reverence and spiritual connection to this centuries-old symbol of peace and enlightenment.

Carved in the 8th century, the Manthal Buddha Rock is one of the most significant Buddhist archaeological relics in Gilgit-Baltistan. It stands as a testament to the region’s rich spiritual history, when Buddhism flourished along the ancient Silk Route. The serene carving of the meditative Buddha on a massive granite boulder continues to attract pilgrims and travellers from across the globe.

Gilgit-Baltistan, once a thriving centre of Buddhist learning and pilgrimage, is home to several ancient rock carvings, inscriptions, and monastic remains scattered across the valleys in Gilgit-Baltistan. These sacred sites not only highlight the region’s historical links with Central Asia, China, and beyond but also offer immense potential for promoting cultural and spiritual tourism.
