Today, I met the new colleague at work who hails from Turkey. He introduced me to a unique branch of Islam known as Alvi, and their particular sect called Alevism.
This sect is an intriguing blend of Shia and Sufi traditions and they hold a distinct set of beliefs. For instance, they do not consider alcohol to be forbidden (haram) and their practice of Namaz (prayer) is conducted with both men and women together, which is quite different from mainstream Islamic practices.
He shared that his beliefs are influenced by the philosophy of Ibn Arabi and Imam Jafir As-Sadiq. This was a fascinating revelation to me as I had never encountered such practices before.
Does anyone have more insights or knowledge about this sect?
