Higher Education Commission HEC Islamabad issues a student alert to check the accreditation status of the institute and program. 14 professional accreditation authorities recognize the professional degree programs offered by universities and institutes. It is pertinent to mention here that accreditation from these authorities is required in addition to HEC's recognition.

HEC only recognizes the status of the institute. But the requirements of the professional degrees are checked by the professional accreditation authorities. These include Pakistan Medical and Dental Commission, Pakistan Engineering Council, National Computing Education Accreditation council, etc… following is the list of accreditation authorities and types of degree programs.

Students are required to make sure that a particular degree program of an institution is accredited by the relevant accreditation authority before getting admission.
