Dear Parents,
"Education and wellness to kids about healthier eating choices, this all has to be part of the school environment just like making sure they have pencils and paper"
Packaged and processed junk foods are high in sugar and fats, and low in nutritional value. These unhealthy eating habits will affect their physical, emotional and mental growth and development, and even during their adult years. In order to prevent our Little Steps kids from unhealthy eating, we strictly recommend our parents to avoid sending junk food as a lunch to school. This is only beneficial to your own child's health.
Tips
- Eliminate packaged and processed snack foods from your kitchen and home. Do not purchase junk foods such as chips, cookies, soda, candy, jellies, bunties and chocolates very often.
- Don't use junk food as a bargaining tool. Rewarding children with junk food or using it to bribe children to get them to eat healthier foods only makes this food more appealing and healthier foods less appealing, so choose non-food rewards.
- Explain to your children that eating fast food and convenient, packaged foods is not healthy.
Warnings
If you keep feeding junk food to your child, it can be difficult to make sure that your child eats balanced meals and snacks every day, and in some cases, child will not eat enough. Pre School-age children need between 1,740 and 1,970 calories per day; it is important that these are not empty calories from junk food.
A poor diet during childhood can lead to disorders such as diabetes, osteoporosis or weak, brittle bones later in life. So we should better take care of our kids' eating habits.
Yours Sincerely,
Tajwar Wain.
