🌿 Tenses in English Grammar
Tenses show the time of an action — whether it happened in the past, is happening now, or will happen in the future.

🕰️ Three Main Types of Tenses
1. Present Tense – action happening now
Example: He plays football.
2. Past Tense – action that already happened
Example: He played football.
3. Future Tense – action that will happen
Example: He will play football.
🕰 1. Present Tense (حال)
Actions that happen now or regularly.
🔹 a) Simple Present Tense
Structure: Subject + 1st form of verb (+ s/es for he, she, it)
Example:
I play cricket. → میں کرکٹ کھیلتا ہوں۔
She writes letters. → وہ خط لکھتی ہے۔
🧩 Used for habits, facts, and daily routines.

🔹 b) Present Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + am/is/are + verb(+ing)
Example:
I am eating breakfast. → میں ناشتہ کر رہا ہوں۔
They are watching TV. → وہ ٹی وی دیکھ رہے ہیں۔
🧩 Used for actions happening right now.

🔹 c) Present Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + has/have + 3rd form of verb
Example:
He has finished his work. → اس نے اپنا کام مکمل کر لیا ہے۔
I have read this book. → میں یہ کتاب پڑھ چکا ہوں۔
🧩 Used for actions completed recently or relevant to the present.

🔹 d) Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + has/have been + verb(+ing) + since/for
Example:
I have been studying for two hours. → میں دو گھنٹوں سے پڑھ رہا ہوں۔
She has been cooking since morning. → وہ صبح سے کھانا پکا رہی ہے۔
🧩 Used for actions that started in the past and continue till now.

⏳ 2. Past Tense (ماضی)
Actions that happened in the past.
🔹 a) Simple Past Tense
Structure: Subject + 2nd form of verb
Example:
I played football yesterday. → میں نے کل فٹبال کھیلا۔
He went to school. → وہ اسکول گیا۔
🧩 Used for completed past actions.

🔹 b) Past Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + was/were + verb(+ing)
Example:
I was reading a book. → میں کتاب پڑھ رہا تھا۔
They were sleeping. → وہ سو رہے تھے۔
🧩 Used for actions happening at a specific time in the past.

🔹 c) Past Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + had + 3rd form of verb
Example:
I had eaten before you came. → تمہارے آنے سے پہلے میں کھا چکا تھا۔
She had left the house. → وہ گھر چھوڑ چکی تھی۔
🧩 Used for an action that happened before another past action.

🔹 d) Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + had been + verb(+ing) + since/for
Example:
He had been working for five hours. → وہ پانچ گھنٹے سے کام کر رہا تھا۔
They had been waiting since morning. → وہ صبح سے انتظار کر رہے تھے۔
🧩 Used for continuous actions up to a point in the past.

🔮 3. Future Tense (مستقبل)
Actions that will happen in the future.
🔹 a) Simple Future Tense
Structure: Subject + will/shall + 1st form of verb
Example:
I will go to Lahore. → میں لاہور جاؤں گا۔
She will call you. → وہ تمہیں فون کرے گی۔
🧩 Used for future plans or decisions.

🔹 b) Future Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + will be + verb(+ing)
Example:
I will be sleeping at 10 PM. → میں رات 10 بجے سو رہا ہوں گا۔
They will be traveling tomorrow. → وہ کل سفر کر رہے ہوں گے۔
🧩 Used for ongoing actions in the future.

🔹 c) Future Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + will have + 3rd form of verb
Example:
I will have finished my homework by 8 PM. → میں رات 8 بجے تک اپنا ہوم ورک مکمل کر چکا ہوں گا۔
She will have reached home. → وہ گھر پہنچ چکی ہوگی۔
🧩 Used for actions completed before a specific time in the future.

🔹 d) Future Perfect Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + will have been + verb(+ing) + since/for
Example:
I will have been studying for three hours by 9 PM. → میں رات 9 بجے تک تین گھنٹے سے پڑھ رہا ہوں گا۔
They will have been living here for five years. → وہ پانچ سال سے یہاں رہ رہے ہوں گے۔
